Low sound in DivX converted film

Has anyone else had the problem of low sound after converting a DVD to DivX6. The sound on the DVD is fine but after converting I have to raise the volume considerably to make it audible, is there some setting that I can change to get around this? If there is I can't seem to find it!

And what is the format of the audiostream in your DivX-compressed .AVI?

What software and procedures did you use to convert your original,purchased DVD to DivX-compressed .AVI?

What is the Title and Region of the DVD?

If you look at the DVD's "Setup" (or similar name) onscreen menu, what does it list as audio choices?

The original DVD (Crash Region 2) had 5.1 sound, I used DivX Converter 6.1 to convert it by simply highlighting the relevant vob files. The DivX film has no menu or extras, I took them out.

Using the 6.1 converter I could not find any way to specify what audio output I wanted, so whatever the default is that is what I got.

You can use GSpot to determine what audio it used, and if it's AC3 you can adjust the general audio settings via Properties while you're playing the file. Opening AC3Filter from Control Panel will allow you to make changes, but you can't monitor them - you have to close both AC3Filter properties and the file and restart it.

So if I wanted to boost the sound I should do that in the AC3 Filter before encoding to DVX, and that should solve the problem when playing it on DVD in an external player?

I'm glad I use AutoGk which allows me to keep the original AC3 in 5.1 or stereo :D (but I use Xvid, not Divx)

You can use avi.net, it is as easy to use as the converter, a few more features and it does normalize on the audio to raise the level.

Don't know why Divx refuses to do this, all their products have the audio much too low.

Autogk, avi.net or StaxRip will do a better job handling your audio and you wont need the ac3 filter
