ATI HDTV Wonder, MPEG-2, and interlace bleed

My capture device is in the subject title. I use it to capture my normal analog cable as well as HDTV. The problem is its capture methods. The software itself is pretty bloated, and the drivers it uses disables VirtualDub capture. All in all, I have no way to capture to an AVI uncompressed format, so I have to use MPEG capture with ATI's "VCR" format. Now this creates a problem. The MPEG-2 artifacts blend the pixels together a little bit, which causes the interlaced fields to bleed into each other. This creates two problems -

1. It confuses the deinterlacing script's edge detection, blending the wrong fields.
2. The color bleeds create a "ghost" of the opposite field on the other field upon deinterlacing.

I'm trying to find a way to capture to raw AVI again. It's an option with ATI's software but it drops frames like crazy and falls out of synch. Is there a driver that will disable ATI's restrictions? Or am I stuck with this?

29.97 fps using uncompressed or HuffYUV.

That IS disappointing. I thought you were going to indicate a DivX or XviD codec.

Last but not least, have you tried (freeware) VirtualVCR?

I've tried to find a way to overcome this. ATI's video capture isn't compatible with VirtualDub, VirtualVCR, or anything using VfW drivers. This is a recent addition to the software.
