Question about Xvid 1.2-127 and HT-capable CPUs

I'm not quite sure about this myself, so I was wondering if anyone else could answer this or provide more of a detailed explaination. I have a single-cpu P4 system that has hyper threading enabled and was wondering if I would see any benifit by using the new 1.2 build and setting it to use 2 threads.

The confusion I have is that I've still got a single-core cpu even though it's HT. I'm not really sure how xvid would deal with that.

The only way it to go and try. Output will be identical regardless how how many threads you pick, so just set up some test and select the one that's faster.

Remember NOT to look at windows' CPU usage meter as benchmark, high usage has very little to do with more speed.

Remember that results might depend on your settings, in particular (fast) 1st pass can have different optimum than 2nd pass.

Whatever you do, file will be identical anyways.

[edit] and share your results. If more people shared, I'd be able to answer better by saying something like "ten people said that 2 threads is 10% faster". But noone shares his results :(

In my tests with the latest version of AutoGK, setting the number of threads to 2 instead of 0, i had a 10-15% speed-up in one pass quality based encoding...

I have a single core HT P4@2,6Ghz....
