View Full Version : "Garbage at end" in gspot after virtualdub "direct stream copy"

I have some avi files captured and encoded using lagarith (default settings) that show up just fine in gspot and work great. I load one of these into virtualdub (1.6.11), set video and audo to "direct stream copy" and choose "save as avi..." thinking that I should get an identical copy of my original file, right?

In any case, my copy is not identical. It's a little smaller. According to gspot 2.52b01, the files are the same number of frames, length, codec, resolution, audio, etc. however the container is different.

Original:
OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
File Length Correct

Copy from VirtualDub:
Multipart OpenDML AVI
(8009 frames in first part, 13327 frames follow)
Garbage at end

Any ideas as to why this would be? I'm doing this as an experiment prior to using virtualdub to do trimming, etc., and want to make sure I understand the above before I proceed too far!

Hi!

Did you create the ORIGINAL .AVI by combining two files?

Nope. The original AVI is just a single capture using virtualvcr, with lagarith as my codec. The capture is fine, AV sync is great, file is HUGE but plays nicely end-to-end.

What comes out of virtualdub "direct stream copy" appears to be something different.

Just curious - If you load the file into VirtualDub and go to frame 8009 or 8010 (The indicated breakpoint), is there anything that appears to be out of the ordinary?

Even if direct stream copy is used, VirtualDub inserts/adds it's own metadata content (VirtualDub version, etc.) into avi.
