I discover how to repair a mastering error in the DTS tracks from Peter Gabriel 'PLAY' DVD.
So I decided to update DTSParser.

Hi hypercube,
glad to see that you are still working on your tools.
Any chance you can add support of certain DTS-WAVs to your DTSParser ? Those who are marked as "open bitrate" pose a problem.

26/03/2005: DTSParser 2.0 is out !: oosp :o
I have a lot of stuff in my brain, may be to many :D
- VOB support for DTSParser
- work on a correlation algorithm for Hypercube Time stretcher
- make a 5.1 flash website to promote my 5.1 tunes :)
- play with my birthday gift from my girlfriend: an ipod nano :p
- sleep
- eat
- ...
owever, could you explain what's wrong ? DTSParser crash ?

Salut and thx for replying,
DTSParser 1.0,1.1 and 2.0 all have a problem when it comes to extracting "open-bitrate" dts streams from DTS-WAV.
Apparently open-bitrate encodings are only found on old DTS-CDs (I guess pre 2000), cause newer ones with a marked bitrate "1411" work flawlessly with your tool.
So when I process "open-bitrate" dts-wav files, DTSParser outputs something "unvalid" - making most DTS decoders crash.
Only libdts plays this - but @ double speed (doesn't sound OK :o ).
The odd thing is when I repack this flawed .dts back to .wav (with your tool - dts2wav.exe), the new DTS-WAV file plays absolutely fine just like the original DTS-WAV.
BTW I also observed that DTSParser.exe performs better than wav2dts.exe.
wav2dts.exe mostly outputs unplayable rubbish (sorry  ), but when it works the output is bit identical to the one of DTSParser. What do you think about merging wav2dts + dts2wav into DTSParser ?
Last but not least - does DTSParser distinguish between DTS 6.1 Matrix and DTS 6.1 Discrete?
Merci

I know that DTS can be in BigIndian OR LittleIdian. For instance DTSParser handle only one of them (I don't remember which one :D ) it could be that
it is not necessary related to "open-bitrate" DTS
wav2dts.exe mostly outputs unplayable rubbish
right. :D DTSParser is the tool replacing this one.
What do you think about merging wav2dts + dts2wav into DTSParser ?
you mean, output a WAV DTS with DTSPARSER ?
this is an idea...
does DTSParser distinguish between DTS 6.1 Matrix and DTS 6.1 Discrete?
it should ! My main pb is that I don't have DTS test stream like that. So I follow the spec hoping it works... let me introduce the blind coding method...

Well anyway those files don't work - if you want some samples to play with just say so ;) .

This swedish site has two DTS-ES Discrete files (at least they claim so :p ):

I could also provide you with such a sample (I have a DTS-CD 6.1) - but I don't know whether is Discrete or just Matrix.

My DTS Spec is not very clear. I need a DTS ES Matrix 6.1 to work.
The DTS ES Discrete 6.1 file on this site is badly reconized by DSParser.

Discrete will also have matrix.
Upon decoding, if the discrete channel is used the decoder then uses this information to "remove" the matrixed version so as to not have it mixed into the LR surrounds. This will sorta kill the effect of the Center rear.
The reason for this is that if you do not have a 6.1 setup then you will still get the audio meant for the extra speaker.

Has plenty of specs to mull over.

may be, but I'm looking for a way to make the difference between pure DTS ES Matrix and DTS ES Discrete + Matrix
Has plenty of specs
this is high level descriptions, not spec. :D

My website seems to be dead. I don't know why... this is a nice opportunnity to me to build a new one... I didn't work on it for
more than a year...
If I have enough time I will publish hypercube Transcoder 4
(may be as shareware...)
- DTS 24/96 decoding with powerdvd
- multichannel AAC encoding with nero
- an SDK

SORTED here (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1792421#post1792421)
I can not get DTSParser 2.0 to produce .dts that is playable correctly (for the purpose of this exercise I use MPC-HC 1.7.10 64-bit with internal LAV audio decoder on PC OR standalone KODI (Openelec 7) via HDMI to Onkyo receiver)
In both cases the result is identical
Here (https://www.sendspace.com/file/eqixbr) is the original ripped .dtswav that I am playing with
.wav plays perfectly, converted .dts plays too fast
Onkyo decodes DTS in either case
Additionally, also besplit creates .dts that is different in size (3k smaller), but it behaves the same way (plays too fast)
VLC does NOT play either .dts

You can try also Bsconvert from http://www.ac3filter.net/wiki/AC3Filter_tools
Like download links seems don't work here is last version:
Or upload a sample (first MB of wav file)

I don't see before your edit with the link to the sample file.
Bsconvert also fail, and add initial garbage.
BTW the 3 soft (BeSplit, bsconvert and Dts parser) make similar output with the same problem:
wrong frame size (3585 bytes) in the header than must be 3584 bytes.
Then any player skip 1 frame each 2 and play the dts in half time.
I replaced the wrong headers values: 7FFE8001FC7CE002
by the correct one: 7FFE8001FC7CDFF2
and now seems play fine https://www.sendspace.com/file/kyohet
I never see that problem before.

Thanks, that makes sense!
But can you explain:
7FFE8001FC7CDFF2
7FFE8001 - DTS marker
FC7C - ?
DFF - frame size = 3583
2 - ?

From ts_102114v010301p.pdf (use Google or other)
FSIZE (Primary Frame Byte Size)
(FSIZE+1) is the total byte size of the current frame including primary audio data as well as any extension audio data.
Valid range for FSIZE: 95 to 16 383. Invalid range for FSIZE: 0 to 94.
Frame size = DDF + 1 = 3584
FSIZE is a field of 14 bits (see the pdf) than include 2 bits from precedent byte (here 00) and the next bits (the 2) are for the next fields AMODE etc.

I make a little tool to do the dtswav to standard dts conversión.
Instead read the framesize in the header, like seems a buggy data, I read the file to calculate the correct framesize.
Seems work fine with all dtswav than I have, even with the created with ffdcaenc.
[EDIT]
New version in next post

I have received these mp's from schorman:
I had a question about the wav2dts tool posted here.
First, the tool is exactly what I've been looking for for about five years!
I first discovered the problem with DTS frame headers when capturing laserdisc DTS audio back in 2013. I discovered, much as you did in the thread above, that fixing the FSIZE and RATE portions of the DTS headers made the .dts files more compatible with available DTS software decoders/players.
Anyway, your tool is nearly perfect for processing DTS streams captured from laserdisc in a single step. Unfortunately, since capturing LD audio is essentially a manual process, the resulting recordings typically have padding at the beginning and end of the wav files produced. This is different than files produced by ripping a DTS-CD.
In testing wav2dts.exe I noticed that the program can remove padding of roughly 0.5 seconds at the beginning of the file, but does not remove padding at the end of the track. This results in additional file data, which both delaycut and eac3to interpret as additional DTS frames.
Would it be possible to update the software to eliminate the additional padding? Also, would it be possible to increase the search size for the first DTS frame header?
Thanks again,
schorman
Here are some samples:
original recording...
wav2dts output...
corrected dts...
Thanks schorman, I never try with LD audio.
At least eac3to can obtain the "corrected dts" from the "wav2dts output", deleting the end padding, with:
eac3to "wav2dts output.dts" "corrected dts.dts"
Ok, I was actually able to adapt your code to work. It now can process files with up to 30 seconds of silence or junk either before or after the dts stream.
Here is my updated code:
https://pastebin.com/GjspmX84
I'm not a coder at all, so if you have suggestions on a way to improve this, please share.
Thanks for this!
schorman
In your code you increment the search in the initial padding and add a detection of end pading.
I have new versions of wav2dts to suport other dts types and best detection of FrameSize. I can include your request in a new version in next days.

It works on the first attempt:
D:\tmp>wav2dts mk_original.wav
FileSize : 611618202 bytes
Initial invalid bytes : 59702
Last bytes rejected : 66660
------------- Valid Header
FrameSizeRead : 3585 bytes.
FrameSize14le : 4096 bytes.
FrameSize16be : 3584 bytes.
NumFrames : 149290.
Channels mode : Surround.
SampleRate : 44.1 KHz.
Done, created : mk_original.dts
[EDIT] The attachement include Wav2dts.exe and DtsWav.exe (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1666473#post1666473)

I wanted to mention that I removed the restriction on the amount of padding at the beginning and end of the file.
