HDTV recordings to 16:9 or 4:3

Hi,

I've recorded some series in HDTV format from FOX (xvid format), now I want to convert those into DVD using ConvertXtoDVD or some other app, but everytime some of the screen is missing, I know this is because the size of the screen. But is there an easy way to convert HDTV recordings to normal standard 16:9 or 4:3 format (PAL/NTSC)?
