Avidemux (http://www.avidemux.org)gets closest though it for example doesn't offer all XviD codec options (CQMs).

Thanks. I want to go to linux from windows. From the little I undestand it seems good. Avidemux supports x264 and AAC 5.1? Also vobsub auto load (separate sub files) supported in linux? thanks again

Actually I still use GKnot and VDub under Linux. But Avidemux 2.2 supports x264, yes. No idea about multichannel or vobsub. Browse the Avidemux forum (http://www.avidemux.org/pun) for more info.

How do you do it? with wine? One (last I hope) question. Thanks again.

Yepp. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=108168) WINE is your friend. :) Seriously, an excellent piece of software, it really eases some bumps in the transition to Linux.
