I have a DVD that has 2 episodes with 2 subtitles in each episode but has no menus
at all on the DVD.

When I use Tmpeg DVD Author to reauthor the DVD with a simple menu, the
subtitles are not there when I play the DVD. I am told that Tmpeg DVD Author does
not support subtitles. If I realized this, I would have purchased DVD-Lab Pro instead.

Here is the structure of the 2 DVDs

Original DVD (old)
------------------

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB

Tmpeg DVD Author DVD (new)
-----------------------------

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB

I was thinking: Is there a way to use the newly created menu but use the original DVD
VOB files so that I can get subtitles in it?

What I tried to do was copy the VOB files from the original DVD to the newly Tmpeg DVD
Authored DVD folder. This way the VOB files in the new DVD folder has the subtitles in
it but the newly associated IFO and BUP files is not aware of it yet.

My next step was to use IFOUpdate to "Update IFOs" on every IFO file, then copy the IFO
and BUP files from the original DVD to the new DVD folder. The Update IFOs command worked
properly on VTS_01_0.IFO and VTS_02_0.IFO but not on the main VIDEO_TS.IFO file, it gave
this error: “VIDEO_TS.IFO is not a VTS IFO file”

When I try to play the DVD, the menu I create in Tmpeg DVD Author is not there but I can
see the subtitles properly. I had set teh following options in IFOUpdate:

Transfer VTS_C_ADT Table
Copy Audio And Subpicture Table
Autocorrect VTS Sectors (When Updating)
Autoanalyze Original IFO (When Upadating)

I then ran IFOEdit on the new VIDEO_TS.IFO file and did a "Get VTS Sectors" on it, I got
the following message:

“Attention: A Menu-VOB file was found, but there was no Menu-tables in this
IFO file! Though you will have big problems on burning this directory, or playing back the
DVD-R. You better delete though the following menu file and redo a Get VTS Sector”

Is there a step I have missed? Is there any other apps I need to use?

The only difference I can see is that the new DVD has the VIDEO_TS.VOB file (where the menu
is created) whereas the old DVD does not have this file.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Tony

Hi!

You might try the following:
Complete (ALL Audio and Subtitles) DVD Shrink Clips to TMPGEnc DVD Author

1) DVD Shrink - Re-author "Start/End"

2) TMPGEnc DVD Author - Author clip AS ONE CHAPTER (It will be silent) with desired menu

3) Replace TMPGEnc DVD Author's "VTS_01_1.VOB" with DVDShrink's "VTS_01_1.VOB"

4) (Easier than using IFOEdit) DVDLab - Tools dropdown menu - "IFO Editor - Audio" - Select the DVD TMPGEnc DVD Author "package" "VTS_01_0.IFO". Change number of audiostreams from "1" to actual number. Then, for each audiostream, enter appropriate information (# of channels, format, language, etc.)

5) IFOEdit - Save modified .IFOs and .BUPs (Cosmetic - Open modified "VTS_01_0.IFO", Select "VTSI_MAT" and change value at "[00000255]" from 4 to 1. Resave.)

6) IFOEdit (To fix appearance of subtitles) - Open DVD Shrink clip's "VTS_01_0.IFO". Select "VTS_PGCITI, click on "+" and then select "VTS_PGC_1". From "Subtitle color" dropdown menu, select "Copy colors from this PGC"

6A) While still in "VTS_PGC_1" - Manually copy Sub-picture stream status numbers starting at [0000001c]

7) IFOEdit - Open modified "VTS_01_0.IFO". Select "VTS_PGCITI, click on "+" and then select "VTS_PGC_1". From "Subtitle color" dropdown menu, select "Paste colors into this PGC"

7A) While still in "VTS_PGC_1" - Manually enter Sub-picture stream status numbers starting at [0000001c]

8) Save modified .IFOs and .BUPs

As an alternative, I saw the following posted (somewhere) quite awhile ago:The way i do it is import the title sets created with ifoedit into dvd author.

Create the disc - tmpeg has a feature/bug whereby it saves all the streams so the vobs are the same size

Rename and copy the original vobs and ifos from the titlesets ONLY (not video_ts.vob/ifo/bup).

Add a post command to resume/call menu for each set. Add a precommand to turn subs off, past original colours into each ifo.

when all saved(2 mins work) open up the first ifo and do a get vts sectors update thingy.

That's it - done. Multi film/multi audio/multi subs. Minimal work.

Thanks for the help.

One question on your step 1. When you mean to author clip
as one chapter (it will be silent), what do you mean?

I have 2 episodes I want to create using TmpgEnc DVD
Author and I usually create 5 chapters per episode. Are you
saying that I shouldn't create any chapters?

setarip_old,

Thanks for the help

I followed your procedure by doing the following.

- Used TmpgEnc DVD Author and imported the 2 episodes
that I had to create the DVD

- Followed your steps 3 to 8 except that I skipped step 4
since I only had one audio track and 2 subtitles per episode.

Everything worked great (can see subtitles, chapters, menu
created by TmpgEnd DVD Author) but I cannot hear any audio
from both episodes.

Is there an extra step I have to do to enable the audio as I
didn't change the audio settings on step 4? In IFOEdit, I can
see the audio track properly and the parameters seem to be
set properly.

Thanks for the help

Everything worked greatGlad to hear that ;>}

but I cannot hear any audio from both episodes.
I'd suggest you try performing Step#4 anyway, to make sure that ALL of the required information regarding the audiostream (# of channels, format, language, etc.) is properly entered.

If this still results in initial silence on playback, try pressing the "audio" (or "language") button on your remote control...
