Im not sure if this is exactly the right topic to post under but im a newbie so thats why its here. What i want to do, is be able rip movies off the dvd, edit/cut clips from these movies put together my own "montage" (i would use a dvd editing program for this), then burn all the edited clips from different movies onto a dvd. I am unsure of how to do this though. Ive downloaded the Dvd decryptor but im not exactly how to use it to help me with this project. Ive read the directions but being a newbie i am totally lost after reading all the jargon. If anyone could help me with this i woud greatly appreciate it as this will be used in school projects a lot. Thank You

When i use the dvd decryptor it uploads the dvd info to my computer as a file that says something like VTS_01_1.VOB and the like. I wanted to know what do do with this. FOr example, does VTS_01_1.VOB mean its one of the chapters on the dvd? and if it is how would i go about changing it to something like a wmv. file or the like so that i may use that clip and edit it using some type of dvd editor. I hope this has cleared up a little of the confusion and thank you for the reply.

oes VTS_01_1.VOB mean its one of the chapters on the dvd? typically no ... it is part of the dvd specs that a .vob cannot exceed a 1 GB file size, so if you take the main movie (for example) you will usually see:
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB etc

to be honest, one of the simplest ways you could achieve your goal is by using dvd shrink to re-author a compilation (and avoid any unneccessary conversions).

please see this guide for details:

What about just using something like nero vision express 2?
