Hi,

Can anybody please tell me if the Power DVD SE can decode AC3 in AVI files, thank you

P.S. Im thinking of buying it, tried nVidia decoder, it decodes AC3 fine but not the AVI-AC3. Not may players can decode that so if anyone here uses it or the Sonic Decoder, please reply and thank you for your troubles.

AC3 filter is ok, AC3-ACM is also good, Aud-X is going great, but I just need a decoder, I have a ATi card I was able to use the DVD decoder that came with another old ATi card of mine and it was able to decode DiVX as well as XviD as well as AVI-AC3, somehow I misplaced the CD so cannot install it as it asks for the CD to validate it so thought that the PowerDVD SE might help, thank you

With an AVI/AC3 parser installed surely any decoder will work? I used to use both intervideo and cyberlink from recollection.

Hi,

Im sorry you did not get my question correctly I was asking about AVI-AC3 files, it plays AC3 without any problem and I can even see a AC3 parser when decoding a AC3 file but not when decoding a WAV header AC3 file. I just wanted to know whether Power DVD SE which is like a plugin could allow me to playback those files.

Thank you or even if there are alternatives to AC3 Filter, Aud-X or AC3 ACM codec

P.S. Thanks for your quick response...

Yeah and I am saying that in the past I have used to use the cyberlink AC3 decoder to decode AC3 from in avi's, it just required a parser so it could connect. This was before AC3Filter existed.

Total noob here, how do you use the parser and where do I get one, does it come with any commerical DVD Decoders

Thanks, and sorry for bugging you

Well the original one was mpeg2split.ax or something like that. Gabest has one to. There are probably others.

My point is that ffdshow/AC3Filter I guess natively support AC3/AVI's. Commercial AC3 decoders I guess tend not to, at least they didn't used to. So a seperate parser was used. This filter connects the avi splitter to the AC3 decoder where it can not directly connect.
