Hey there. I have been using my Medion dvd burner (which is actually a reboxed Pioneer dvd rw dvr 107d for about two years now with not one problem but since a few days ago it has slowed down dramatically.....I tried to burn a game at 24x which has never gone wrong before and it said it had 'failed to burn' BUT it burnt at 20x. I tried to burn a converted avi file and it 'failed to burn' at 4x but it would at 2x.
I know this isnt a huge problem but its just bugging me that its started to do this. Ive tried the firmware upgrade from this site and it says an error occured and didnt install.When i get the upgrade from pioneer it said 'Available taget not found' .Through looking through google it seems this has happened a few times with different people.
Now im not at all an expert at these things so I would appreciate a some advice on what to do.
My computer isnt using that much processor power when burning and Im using Nero 6.6 when converting files to DVD.
Any help would be hugely appreciated

Hi!
The problem you've stated doesn't seem to be related to a firmware update, since you say that it hasn't existed previously - unless, of course, you've just started using both different CD and DVD media recently.
Since you've had the burner for "a couple of years", it may be in need of a cleaning with a DVD/CD cleaning disc. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...

I was using Memorex dvd-r and since my local shop stopped selling them i tried some maxell ones which did the same thing and wouldnt play in my burner or dvd player. But worked in my dvd-rom.
Im using Philips dvd-r now....but it says they can burn upto 16x. My burner only burns dvds at 4x which is perfect for me.

Do I understand correctly that, by virtue of using different media, you are now able to make playable burns? If so, congratulations on resolving your dilemma ;>}

Sorry i wasnt clear in my last message....I said my burner burns at 4x .....but that was only on the disks that i use to use. But these new disks will only burn at 2x but they say they'll go upto 16x
BUT i am using the same cdrs and they always burnt at 24x but will now only burn at 20x

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, since you've had the burner for "a couple of years", it may be in need of a cleaning with a DVD/CD cleaning disc. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US. This may get your CD burn speed back to where it was.
The DVDs are rated at "Up To" 16X burn speed. If you're not, as you've mentioned, able to apply the appropriate firmware update to your burner, I'd suggest you try to find some 8X or 4X rated DVD media...
