View Full Version : VOBs from diff DVDs to one DVD?

I'm new and would appreciate a pointer to where to read how to do the following:
So I use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to grab entire chapters from various DVDs, a Matrix lobby shooting spree here, an Appleseed - Metal Assassins there, etc…
What is the easiest way (free or pay for) to take a random collection of intact .VOBs like this and make a single playable DVD. No editing, NO transcoding, no menus required, just a DVD with each VOB as a chapter. My emphasis is I want the video and sound “as is” and not transcoded in anyway.
I’ve looked VobEdit and InfoEdit and had some mixed luck. I was hoping someone knew of a straightforward app you can point at a folder full of VOBs and just have it take care of it all.
Thanks for any advice you may have on where to start with this “Favorite chapters from your favorite movies” DVD.

One good tool for that would be DVD-Lab... it's not free though... $100 for the basic, I think.

TMPGEnc DVD Author is program that will do what you want.
Best of all, its very easy to use and has a free 30 day trial version. It will even burn your DVD to disc once you finish making your custom DVD.

If you need a freeware, you may have a try on "DVD Shrink",which have the reauthoring function too, and I like its interface.

dvdshrink will not work with individual .vob files, only with complete dvd's (either original disc, mounted .iso, or ripped in file mode)

hi and welcome to the forum!
as already indicated by Rockas and Video Dude, there are a number of commercial programs avaliable to suit your requirements. both of the programs mentioned come with trial versions so you can test if they suit your need before shelling out some hard earned cash.
if you decide to save your money and dive head first into the world of dvd authoring, there are also many freeware alternatives, such as using DGIndex to demux your .vob files into video (.m2v) and audio (.ac3/pcm etc), and then you can use a freeware authoring app (such as muxman/dvdplanner etc) to put the put the traks back together again.
with either route you choose, good luck :)

I think DVDPlanner is not available yet. :(

Thank you all for the helpful information. I just downloaded and tried the trials for both the DVD Lab Pro and the Tsumami Pro. Both did exactly what I wanted. I'm going to purchase the Tsumami. It was half the price of DVD Lab and a bit easier to use, plus I don’t need any of the advanced menu editing features in DVD Lab.
Thanks again for the advice; it was helpful and much appreciated.

I used VOB merge first, then re-created the IFO's and such using IFOEdit. Worked like a charm.
My DVD has Master & Commander, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Toy Story, etc...Just a collection of material (2.35:1, 1.77:1, 1.85:1, Dolby, Dolby EX, DTS, DTS-ES matrix and discrete) to show off my system.

Hi!I used VOB merge firstYou're not saying that you created ONE .VOB containing multiple resolutions and multiple audio formats, are you?

Yep. I did. And it worked for me.:sly:

I'm quite interested in understanding better how you accomplished this.
Did you create a compliant DVD that plays on a standalone DVD player?
Did you use IFOEdit to create only one title containing the clips from all of the movies?
How did you account for the differing audiostream types?
How did you account for the differing video formats?

HAhahah! I didn't know/think it was that big of a deal.
Did you create a compliant DVD that plays on a standalone DVD player?
Ya...standard DVD. Plays on my player at least, and thats all that matters.
Did you use IFOEdit to create only one title containing the clips from all of the movies?
Ya. After VOBMerge, I hit 'Create IFO's' in IFOEdit.
How did you account for the differing audiostream types?
I didn't have to. What happened was VOBMerge it created 4 audio tracks. I don't know why, but thats what happened. I have 2 DD tracks, and 2 DTS tracks. But the first DD 5.1 track plays on all the clips, even DD-EX.
How did you account for the differing video formats?
Again, didn't have to...VOBMerge did. I didn't think it would matter, switching from 1.85/1.77/2.35. Because all the clips are anamorphic, the player should do most/all of the work, regardless of what I throw at it.
I could try to reproduce it if you want me to.
Sorry for the delay in response.

Ah...I getcha. Ya, they're all movies, no 4:3 content.
