View Full Version : DIVX to DVD with menus

I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum, if I'm not, please forgive and feel free to redirect me to a different one.
The thing is, once I borrowed a friend's DVD who had made a single DVD full of bunch of the Simpsons shows, complete with chapter index and chapter selection menu. There were quite many shows on it due to the size of the original DIVX files compared to the VOB ones. So, my question is, how would I go about this on my own?
For example, I've got three movies in a DIVX format and I want them on a single DVD with a simple menu to choose which movie. What do I need for this (suggestions?)? I presume they need to be re-encoded to MPEG2?
Any help, please!

1- convert your divx files to dvd (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm)with your favourite encoder(quenc, hcenc, freen etc all freeware)
2- use dvdstyler/dvdauthor gui/gui for dvdauthor(freeware) to make the menus for your converted files and author
good luck

Cool, thanks man for all the info. Just one quick question; will the converted files from divx to dvd get any bigger?
Cheers!

The original poster admitted doing something 'wrong' (assuming borrowing a copy is dodgy) but his actual question is about how to place some *other* content of his on DVD.

Lets say the video bitrate of the divx is 900 (could be quite a bit more), then you might want an MPEG2 bitrate of 3000 or more. The increase in size is usually substantial.

@Matthew
Do not discuss rule 6 content. Is there something you do not understand? Please answer in a PM, not here. Thank you.
I remind you that this site is about DVD backup, not DVD -> DivX -> DVD conversion, because you know as well as I do why the poster has only the DivX version.

Ahh, yes, of course. Thanks for the reminder, Matthew.
As for the source of the material in question, it is my own; the Samurai Trilogy that I have on DVD. I wanted to see if they could be fit in an adequate quality on a single DVD (perhaps a dual layered one).
I did never make a copy of my friend's the Simpsons DVD, hence the verb "borrowed", that I used.
I hope Neuron2 doesn't always assume the worst in people.

I hope Neuron2 doesn't always assume the worst in people. Chill out or you'll get struck for a rule 4 violation.
It makes no sense to convert your DVDs to DivX and then back to MPEG2 again to put back on a DVD. The only sensible explanation is that you have only the DivX versions. Keep it up and you'll get a rule 6 strike to go with the rule 16 strike you just received.
If you contest this, then discuss it with me in PM, not here. If you can't accept my decision after that, then go through the proper channels to escalate your issue, as described here:
