View Full Version : Aspect Ratio Correction possible?

Hi,

I would like to know if there is a solution to my problem (I have read most of the related posts):

I've just bought a portable DVD player (Mustek MP100 10 inch TFT). I have many personal clips from my video camera which I have encoded to xvid.

The portable DVD reads Mpeg4, but xvid files are distorted (people looks "fat") when played in full screen mode (16:9).

I would like to know if there is a way to convert my files withour re-encoding. I have tried Mpeg4modifier without success (no change on image aspect). I have tried also demuxing with Yamb, but my portable DVD doesn't read mp4 files.

Any idea on what can I do to avoid the re-encoding work??

Many thanks.

Your portable DVD player probably does not recognise anamorphic signalling (embedded within the MPEG-4 video stream)...

I presume you want your MPEG-4 encodes to be displayed at 4:3 on your 16:9 display?

My videos are originally taken and encoded at 16:9, and I want to see them that way (16:9 using the whole screen. What I get now is black mattes up and down and the video is compressed to the middle. I can see them correcty in 4:3 mode, but with black mattes right, left, up and down. Should I have to re-encode them using any resizing filter? (I prefer to avoide it because is a time and quality consuming task).

Thanks.

I'm a little confused...

Can you play one of your camcorder sources in a software media player and grab an "uncorrected" still image. Then do the same with one of your XviD encodes.

You can post both images here using ImageShack (www.imageshack.us).... Here's an example of how to upload: -
