Is there a way to shrink a large .wmv file onto a DVD-R?
I have a large ~5.1GB .wmv file that I'd like to get on a 4.7GB DVD-R disk. I tried to use DVD Shrink and DVD Fab, but they seem to want the Video_TS file and won't allow me to add a .wmv file.
I'm pretty new to this (thus Newbie forum). I have successfully made copies of my movie DVD's using Shrink, Fab Decrypt, and Nero, etc. But this is the first time trying with some .wmv files I have.
Thanks,

Hi!
You cannot add a WMV file directly to a Video DVD. It is just somethig really different. What is your purpose with this? Just to archive the file, or make playable on standalone players?
btw. WMV is similar to AVI files from this POV. Have a look at the avi to DVD guides to understand what is the problem. You find tons of good guides in the Guides section.

Maybe you can burn the DVD to an image using the .wmv file and use the Video_TS file from the DVD (i think theres such a file on a DVD) to do the shrink?
Or recompress the WMV file....?

I bought some World Baseball Classis games from MLB.com and I want to rid them from my harddrive and store them on a disk. Each game so far is slightly larger than 4.7GB for a DVD disk. All I want to do is store the file on a disk. If it can run on my standalonbe DVD player hooked up to my TV, all the better. But minimum is storing so I can remove from HD.
I don't know how to compress a .WMV file or how to convert to a Video_TS or AVI file (yet).
Thanks for your help.

You can use SUPER (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) to encode your wmv (to mpeg2) and then use an authoring package to compile your DVD.

DRM??? Dude, I'm pretty new to this. Can I save my 5.1GB .wmv file onto a disk so I can not clog up my HD every time I download another file?

Will SUPER shrink the .wmv files so it will fit on a 4.7GB disk> The MLB.com files so far are between 5.1 and 5.7GB each.

Probably not, due to the DRM encryption...

Well... you'll have to choose the output bitrare... that will define the final size.
What is the duration (time) and frame rate of your clips?
edit: about the DRM... I don't know... you'll have to try.

I bought the ALCS. MLB.com games have DRM, so the computer you have it on originally is the only computer you can watch it on. You have to connect to the internet to authorize the clip. I formatted my computer, unknowing about the DRM (i was a video noob at the time) and I can't play it anymore. Its just a piece of 600 or so mb video file sitting on a cd like a rock. My brother got it to work on a different computer, but that was a little while ago and he doesn't remember how he did it.....
My MLB.com file is only 700 MB...
Maybe it'll work for you. Dunno. But mine has DRM.
