View Full Version : Using Koepi's 1.1.0 final Xvid codec with AutoGK?

Greets,

I noticed that the latest (2.27) release of AutoGK comes with the "XviD 1.2 SMP build of 28/02/06". I was just wondering if it's possible -- or recommended -- to use a stable build instead, like Koepi's XviD-1.1.0 final.

My primary concern is longevity. Newfangled features and slightly faster encoding times aren't as important to me as knowing I'll still be able to view the .avi in ten or fifteen years.

I've always heard that Koepi's stable codecs are the best to use, and would have installed it instead of AGK 2.26's bundled "XviD 1.1 build of 09/12/05"... were it not for the "use only XviD bundled!" warning. :)

So if anyone has tried using Koepi's 1.1.0 final with AutoGK, or can advise me on what to do, I'd hold up this little sign here:

:thanks:

Yes, you can use it. Just make sure you uninstall whatever version you currently have first. It doesn't matter what new features XviD-1.1.0 has because AutoGK will use only what it needs.

But if you have HT,Dual Core processor better use lastest SMP beacouse is faster processing.

Okay, as long as you guys don't think I'll have any problems, I went ahead and uninstalled the 09/12/05 Xvid build and installed the 1.1.0 final. :)

AFAIK, I don't have dual core processors or anything, so I shouldn't notice any speed issues.

Anyway, whether there's actually anything to it, I now feel a little bit safer. Thanks guys.

Er, I almost forgot:

:thanks:

There we go. *grins*

Well 1.1.0 final I think still uses the old names for the HT profiles, so that would most likely break ESS encoding. It would also be missing the MTK profiles which would break MTK encoding.

I can't see a problem with using a 1.2cvs build, even if you only have 1 CPU/core. If anything I would update to the 2006.03.13 build.
