i am still very new to avc/h.264 encoding. and i do have a small question:
when using meGUI encoding with x264, if i want to use a pre-saved profile such as Sharktooth's. do i set his profile first and then use the bitrate calculator to restrict it if i want to encode them at a fixed file size?
i tried encoding a dvd last night, but forgot which order i set them, ended up with a oversized mp4 file. i guess i did it the other way around.
*another question (dont wanna post an other thread again, sorry):
as i tried the "HQ-Slowest" profile of Sharktooth, (no particular reason, just wanted to test out how "slow" it would be), then i ended up with approx. 10hrs of encoding time from a source dvd movie roughly 5.2GB in size and 2hrs in length.
my pc setup is a dual amd X2 4200+ with 2gb of ram. multi-thread set to 2 in x264. cpu was roughly 90~95% loaded during the whole time.
Is this really how "slow" it gets? i mean WOAAAAOW if i didnt misconfiged anything.
