View Full Version : Free DVD-Video burner

Hello,
I'm looking for a free DVD-Video burner. I know about ImgTool Classic+ImgBurn, but I don't have always enough free space for an intermediate .IMG file. I also tried a plugin for Total Commander, but it produces faulty DVDs (can't be played on a standalone, only on PC).
Do you know about any other free DVD-Video burning solutions? There seems to be a lot of good burning SW for Linux, but not for Windows.

I believe the freeware/adware DVD compression program, "Shrinkto5" includes a freeware burning program...

I've been wondering this myself and I finally stumbled across one that looks like it supports UDF.

ShrinkTo5 is adware not freeware and Easy Burning doesen't seem to support DVD-Video. But thank you for your suggestions anyway. I hope CDBurnerXP PRO will support DVD-Video soon or the Total Commander plugin will be fixed.

DVD burning is more complex than burning the compiled VOBs onto a DVD with proper folder structure, in udf mode?

I think so, because I tried to burn a DVD-Video using a freeware Total Commander plugin and all standalon players refused to play it. So it seems to me it is more complicated to burn DVD-Video then a data DVD.

I've used CDBurnerXp Pro for that a lot of times and if the folder structure (and the files of course..) is correct, it works fine. (Note CDBXP doesn't support DL DVDs)

AFAIK CDBurnerXp Pro doesen't support UDF file system. Have you tried to play the DVD in a standalone player?

Yes. Just to check it, I've encoded a short clip with VSO DivxtoDVD, and burned it on a CDRW (sorry I don't have my dvd's backup here at the moment): works fine on my Waitek Vision HTX.
If you have a rewritable DVD try and see if it works.

Currently it is not possible to create real video-DVDs because CDBurnerXP does not support burning with UDF-filesystem. Thus burned video-DVDs are incompatible to some players.

So, so far the only free one that supports UDF is the one I linked earlier (Easy Burning)

This one can burn video dvd and it works with my standalone player. It can use\uses the same burning engine as Easy Burning (that was mentioned), but in my opinion it's a bit easier to work with.

Another option is Burnatonce (also uses the same engine).

I really like the program CD_DVD_BURNING (http://ghosthunter.true.ws/) and the other burning tools from ghosthunter. They are small and fast and do its job.
For DVD burning I normally use IMGTOOL_CLASSIC (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/imgtool_classic.cfm) in combination with IMGBURN (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download).

Yeah, unfortunately the problem we're finding is that it's REALLY hard to find freeware tools that can burn DVD-Video discs like Nero/Nero Express. i.e. doesn't make an intermediate image. Just drag and drop the files you want to burn and it burns it to the disc without having to create an image.

Oh, I think CD_DVD_BURNING does it the same way as Nero, but I didnīt test it until now, because imgburn does just a great job.

Edit: I think GHOST-BURN also doesnīt create a intermediate image.
