View Full Version : Backing up DVD that's 98% readable.

I have a DVD that I burned awhile back that has a problem with the very end. The disc shows a discoloration on the outer edge. I'd like to save what is readable before it deteriorates further. DVD Shrink will read 98% and then reject it entirely. DVD Decrypter will copy most of the DVD to my hard drive but what do I do then?

please observe the forum rules and correct netiquette ... we do not condone insults of other forum members. could you please edit your post, thanks.
now ... as to your problem ...
you do not need to use dvd shrink or dvd decrypter as the back-up copy does not contain any copy protection (particularly if it is a data dvd and not a video dvd, which you have not stated)
so ... i would use a recovery tool such as isobuster to recover as much information as possible .... then if you have a dvd of some home video you have authored yourself, you may have to use vobblanker (or similar) to blank out the sections that you could not recover, to produce a compliant dvd (or if thgat does not work, you will have to re-author from scratch)
btw iirc copies of copies (of commercial dvds) do not fall within the boundaries of fair use, and therefore can not be discussed in this forum. trying to recover data from a data dvd, or making a copy of your own source material (eg home video) is.
