View Full Version : Req: Close DVD-RB on encode/rebuild completion

I have a little request for a new feature, hopefully it's very easy to implement.
I have my machine configured to restart every 3 days for stability reasons (WinXP Media Center). I have used ShutDownPlus to acheive this and it is set so that the restart is not invoked if the DVD-RB executable is running. If I go away and leave DVD-RB processing a big batch job though, the restarts will never occur as RB won't close itself when it's done.
I realise this feature may not be required my most users but I was hoping that as there's already a "Shutdown on complete" option, that this would be fairly painless to add.
Thanks :D

under the mode tab in the pro version you can check
shutdown at rebuild completion

There is also a "Shutdown at BATCH Completion" option under the "File" menu.

OK, I might not have explained this very well. I do not want the computer to shut down. If it shuts down, Media Center won't record anything. I want my PC to restart every 3 days, unless DVD-RB.exe is running as this would screw up the encoding/rebuilding.
Even if DVD-RB.exe is running, ShutDownPlus can check every couple of hours if DVD-RB.exe has finished. If it detects that DVD-RB.exe is gone, it will go ahead and restart the PC thus maintaining general system stability and still recording TV when required.
Trouble is, DVD-RB doesn't exit on completion therefore DVD-RB.exe will always be detected and therefore the PC will never restart. So what I'm asking for is a "Close DVD-RB on complete" option rather than a "Shutdown whole PC" option. Does this make more sense?

I guess it won't be very hard to do an AutiIt script for want you want.
If no further solutionscame up I can do it - I think :)

shutdown -r -f -t 1
That in a batch file as a scheduled task will do the job. Not sure why you'd rely on some other program to do this....

Thanks, but I am fully aware of what a batch job is capable of doing and when it is suitable to use them. The main reason I rely on a 3rd party program is that normal Windows restarts (on my machine), whether scheduled or started manually, never shut down properly without intervention. i.e. lots of "Not Responding" messages and other various errors including, but not limited to Microsoft's crappy IntelliType/Point software and dw15.exe errors. This means it is not automated. The 3rd party software has a "Force non-responding apps to close" option which solves this.
Also, the 3rd party software, as I already mentioned, allows you set all sorts of conditions as to when and if the restart will go ahead e.g. if a certain process is running, don't restart or if CPU usage is above x%, don't restart. You get the idea.
Anyway, is this feature easy to implement or am I flogging a dead horse here?

As I told you before... I can do an AutoIt app to do that but you'll have to do the beta testing :)

I do appreciate the offer Rockas but I was wanting to know if the fuctionality could be built into RB itself without the use any external apps. If it's too much trouble then I can live without it but seeing as there's already the option to shutdown on completion, I am making the uneducated guess that a "Exit RB on completion" option would be very easy to add.

I just got back from holiday in sunny Tenerife to find a lovely new version of DVD-RB waiting for me with the requested feature implemented! Thank you very much jdobbs for your continued hard work and support of DVD-RB! :thanks:
