Encoding Microsoft Recorded TV Files

I'm running on a Windows XP Media Center, and I was wondering if there is a way to encode (or convert) the files created by Media Center to a format suitable where computers not running with Media Center can play them (converting them to a file where they can be used with AviSynth for example).

Perversion? MPEG-2 codec is a container independent codec. Nobody says you have to use a PS or TS with it. If you think it's a perversion, then I guess putting MPEG-4 ASP into MKV is pretty sick too. ;)

There was a very clear need for ASF as the container when Microsoft was developing the DVR format for MCE. For one, MPEG PS and TS don't have the rich metadata support that MCE needed. The ASF format also allows the Stream Buffer Engine to seek and play the stream while it's still being recorded. And finally, there's DRM. We all may hate it, but the networks and studios want it, and Microsoft is just filling a business need.
