Hello All,

Ok, I have some 352x240 MPEG-2 at 2000kbs captures lying on my hard drive taking up space. These captures are of tv shows from an aerial antenna. I'm familiar with Virtualdub/dubMod and Avisynth. I want process this video file (remove noise, rainbowing, adjust levels). Once I have my avisynth script going, its a matter of which format do I encode to? XviD/Divx or DVD-Video?

If need be, is it difficult and time consuming to convert my xvid/divx file to DVD?

Also please note: I dont have a Mpeg-4 player yet. Ive looked on the net, this website as well as others, and in Sunday ads for Standalone Mpeg-4 players so I plan on purchasing one.

Also, should I author those MPEG-2 files(unproccessed) to DVD as a backup or is it safe to delete them?

All opinions, tips, and advice is greatly appreciated. I am eagerly awaiting to get started encoding. Thanks

MrTroy

If you plan on later converting to DVD anyway, do it directly. It's not difficult to convert XviD -> DVD, but you'll lose a lot of quality.

So think what you want. If you want DVD's, convert to MPEG2. If you are sure you are going to buy an MPEG4 player, convert to XviD. Not because of better quality, but that way you can fit more video on 1 disc.

Thanks for the suggestion MrTroy. Well, my only reason to convert DVD would be i.e play on other dvd players in my house or if I ever wanted to watch it at a friends house. Most of the viewing will be in house.
