whats the best way to burn a dvd movie

that will play in my stand alone dvd player.i have alot of .avi and .mpg files.but it seems like a huge task to convert them over.Im just looking for a simple way to do this without all the hassle of converting the formats.

Actually I found what I was looking for.With only two clicks this tool converts everything for you.Takes 2 seconds.People have told me ways to do this manually thats very tedious and confusing.This tool does it for you.But thanx for the little input that i got.

I know several shareware could do that,but not freeware.
Such as Imtoo DVD Creator, Movie DVD Creator,ConvertXtoDVD etc.
