I-Tunes downloads are stored as MPEG4 i believe. my son wants some of these songs for his PSP which is MP3.
how do i do it.. software available? help.!

You will have to get rid of the DRM first - then you can convert it. Of course there should be the option to run a sound recording software (like Audacity) while listening to the song and then converting that recording to mp3.

It might be an idea to get your terminologies correct too!
iTunes predominately sells its music tracks using the "AAC-LC" (Advanced Audio Coding-Low Complexity) audio format and places the AAC-LC stream within the .M4A container.
EDIT: And yes each "paid-for" track is encrypted
