"Fix number of streams" warning in PgcEdit after running ARccOS wizard

This has happened twice in a row now. After going through the entire sequence of ripping an ARccOS-protected title using the fantastic PgcEdit wizard plugin, if I quit PgcEdit (0.6.3.1) and re-open it, I get:


Warning: There are 10 discrepancies in some VMGM/VTSI_MAT tables.

Do you want to run the "Fix number of streams" macro to fix them?

I don't get this when the wizard loads the title at the end of the clean-up phase. Why not?

BTW I get this frequently with many titles. Is this normal or is it maybe my drive or OS (XP Pro)?

Can you point to the main ones? I didn't find much. Also, why do I get it 1.) so often and 2.) only after I quit the program and reopen the DVD after using the wiz? Shouldn't it show up when the wizard opens it?

I don't remember where I wrote the explanation about this warning. In short:

If there are stream assignments defined in the PGCs, there must be an equivalent defined in the "Domain Streams Attributes".

1) If there are streams defined in the domain streams attributes but never used in the PGCs, it's useless and confusing to keep them. I've often seen all audio and all subpic streams defined in the domain streams attributes, while only some of them were really useful. Most of the time, the change streams PUOs are set, and therefore it is normally not possible to change the streams with the remote, and the user will normally not notice this discrepancy. But if you change the PUOs, even during the ripping process, it can lead to problems.

2) In the other hand, if there are streams defined in the PGCs that are not defined in the domain streams attributes, you will probably not be able to use them. This case is very rare, though. But the user could have modified manually the streams assignments in some PGCs, and therefore this case must be verified, too.

PgcEdit verifies both cases, and offer to change the number of subpics defined for the domain streams attributes.
This check is made when the DVD is opened, at the request of several users. But, as I said, it's not that important, unless you encounter case 2 above. You can even disable this check via the options menu.


Answers to your questions:

1) You get the warning so often because many authoring programs define a number of subpic of 1 in the menus domains without video contents, and therefore without subpics streams. As I said, I have removed the warning in this precise case, because it happens very often, and it doesn't hurt.

2) I think the wizard disables most PgcEdit warnings when loading the DVD, to avoid confusing the user with warnings not related to its job.
