why rmv playing drive ??
in actual scenario , this never happen
The h.264 + he-aac produces much better results than rmvb

That's true! a good H.264 codec like x264 beat them all. ;)

Plus, stand-alone H.264/AVC with (HE) AAC (in .MP4 files) players are already available.

* based on wavelet and fractal
* using Ze frames
* 30% better than x264

Gonna be in RealAnime 4.2 for those who can't get it

We would we..
Real Networks as a relatively small company should be able to push new technology into a product much quicker. ISO is a huge standarisation comittee that has to somehow unite the needs of an entire industry.
The base for h.264 is years old. Therefore it is entirely possible that Real's new codec gives a significant increase over h.264 *on the paper* - however how well the implementation of brand new technology is, compared to more tuned implementations of the older h.264 technology is, is another thing...

Very interesting unmei,

But.....
Another technology or of other strategies of development???

What could be the mobile used to counter financing without concession, added to this the increasing development of the communication and services?

x264 is nice codec, but similar with divx, its's need hight resource (memory, processor). i hope rv11 keep that point, hight quality and light needed resource.

RV9 EHQ wasn't light back there. I have now with x264 and my 3000+ the avg. same FPS then when I was having a 2000+ and RV9 EHQ.

Technology gets heavier, CPU gets faster. I will not be surprised if I need to get a dual core or a quad core to use RV11.

i had encode anime with my p4 2ghz and 256 ddr, codec x264. it's succeeded, but when playing them i got no picture else all grey. then i copied them to ddr 512 computer, n it's worked well.

it's happened when i installed x264 codec from original package. x264 work well when i just install your app, realanime without original x264 package.

Sirber

x264 package is for encoding only. RealAnime installs ffdshow for decoding too.

The gray thing could be decoder issue...

Well hopefully CoreAVC could prove that we have no reason not to use H.264 anymore ^^

If they really decided to give up RV10 at least they could open source it................

Sirber
18th April 2006, 03:03
nah, they can't opensource.

it's all about the patents :)

why speak about RV11? Karl say himself that there are not RV11 planed.

And IMO if real make RV11, RV11 will be H264 like for audio with aac+ simply because it's the best possible standart at this time.

H264 start seriousely since only 2 year with Nero. IMO the possible improuvement for this codec is really important. Don't forget that very old and simple codec like MPEG2 progress always ...

see xvid, x264, lame, faac...

It's pretty hard to sue opensource projects and it's pretty easy to sue a compagny in case of patent troubles.

Did he say that? I must have missed it then.

Well why cant they open source RV10 into something like Helix Video then....... i would love it ^^

perhaps bad speculation ...

It is not likely there will be any updates to RV10. It is stable and there are no open bugs. We are working hard on another project, and have no spare resources to continue improving RV10.

well when there is such great codec like x264 with whole open source available to see for any person it won't be hard to develop a new codec.

Remeber how were greatly improved last VP7.0.10.0 and Elecard AVC. How you think from where it comes?

vp6 was H.264-like codec (refs, deblock ....etc)
vp7 is a direct clone of H.264 ..........

if I'm not mistaking RV has something from Xvid curve comperrsion and some other features from MPEG standard like B-frames and others features.

Nobody is creating a bike. The technology is already here. The reference code is here for all. The most hard part of work is to optimize all stuff and make it work integrally and fast.

Sirber
23rd April 2006, 23:36
RV has a curve compression comparable to the one in XviD, also the "old one" made for streaming.

Perhaps it appears so on the surface, but none can say what the internals of this thing are... for instance, I've heard that the Truemotion codecs are said to be incompatible with B-frames, but they have still managed to push the top for quite a while, and like you mentioned, just underwent a drastic improvement from a rewrite of the motion search algorithm.

We've seen it before with On2 to a certain degree-- its VP6 and VP7, which metrically beat ASP codecs in some instances, were out some time before AVC really took up steam. Nowdays On2 is wrapped up in their Flash 8 version of VP6, though, so...
If Real was working hard behind the scenes this whole time, there is not only a chance, but a tangible possiblity. Of course, this is all cheifly speculation...
