Ok this is a complete newbie question, but is there a way to burn the the VIDEO_TS files straight to a DVD without creating an ISO with ImgTool?
Can I just write the VIDEO_TS directory using Nero 7.0 "Burn data DVD"? I'm just loooking to skip the create-ISO step.
Thanks for any help!

Open Nero in the Data selection, Select DVD, Select DVD video, new. Drag and drop the Video_TS to the left pane and burn.

Drag and drop the Video_TS to the left pane and burn. This is incorrect.
"Drag and drop" the FILES (.IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs - NOT the folder that they're in) into NERO's RED "VIDEO_TS" folder...

i don't have seem to have a RED video_ts folder when i go to burn a data dvd.
hmmm so i open nero burning rom and it looks like this: http://home.comcast.net/~epj69/etc/nero.gif
my question is can i just drop the VIDEO_TS folder over there and burn. i would just try it and see, but it's a dual layer disc and i don't want to waste one if it's not gonna work.
thanks!

You don't want to burn a "Data DVD" - you want to select the "DVD-Video" mode/icon...

hmmm yeah i had tried going into nero vision by picking 'DVD-Video' from nero start-smart and you see this: http://home.comcast.net/~epj69/etc/nero2.gif
when you click "add files", it doesn't let you add the IFO file by default, and if you force it to add the VIDEO_TS.IFO file, then it just complains that it "can't add this type of file". if you add the VOBs, then it starts analyzing all the VOBs trying to automatically figure out chapter breaks, etc. i already have an IFO file to drive the dvd and i want to use that, not have nero analyze my VOBs and try to create it's own IFO file.
if nero will do what i want then that's great. but actually i really don't care about using nero, any freeware tool that will just let me burn a VIDEO_TS directory to a DVD will do fine.

You want to use NERO Burning ROM, NOT NEROVision...

ok, my problem was that i was trying to get to it from the "nero start-smart", but there aren't any shortcuts to nero burning rom dvd video mode. when you choose "DVD-video" from start-smart, it takes you to nero-vision. and when you choose "data-DVD" from start-smart, it takes you to Nero burning ROM but automatically dumps you into data-only mode.
so dumb@ss me finally figured out to click "New" first in nero burning rom to get out of data mode. ok so i'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier but the start-smart thing certainly hasn't made nero any easier to use.
well thanks for putting up with me. :)

You are wrong I just dragged and dropped the Video_TS folder from the right pane to the left pane. The folder will open up and show you the files.
Try it.
Its faster then opening the folder and selecting all the files.

@terryt
What you've described (in "DVD-Video" mode) doesn't work for me...

I don't know what version of Nero you are using, I'm using V7.
I open it up in to write data, when nero opens you will get a new window and it will have a drop box for CD or DVD, pick DVD and then pick DVD video then select new. After the Nero explorer winwow opens in the right pane navigate to the Video-ts folder you want to burn and drag and drop it on the left pane any where and the folder will open and you will see all the files.

You have to use a DVD authoring program like Ulead DVD Movie Factory or something like Roxio Media Creator.

tantraman:
Sorry I didn't read your post right, if you are using Nero 7 use Nero vision to create a movie or DVD.

Like everyone else here I recommend you to try IMGburn. While it has also advanced settings, it's smart enough not to confuse a beginner.
Run imgburn, pick up the files to be burnt, and drag'n'drop them. It would recognize whether it's a DVD or a BD, you only need to set it's name :)
