old BT 848 - jerky picture

Hi,

I have got an old Conexant (BTPCI WDM Video Capture) TV card with BT 848 chipset. My problem is that I get a jerky picture during preview and capture (jerk Pan).
Is this a performance problem of my old TV-Card? Do cards with BT 878 chipset also have this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

I have two BT878 cards (Hauppauge wintv go, V-stream vs-tv878rf) and they haven't the problem explained.

Maybe, perhaps a problem with the drivers. Try free btwincap drivers:

or a problem whith the capture software. Try virtualVCR

http://virtualvcr.sourceforge.net/

If your motherboard is someway aged, maybe also a a problem with the PCI bus latency. Try to modify it in the BIOS's setup (get first some info with google).

Hi Avil,

Thanks, I have been using P4 Asus P5GL-MX with 2.66 Intel and 256 DDR. I am also using btwincap drivers/ virtualVCR software, I get Jerky picture when i try to capture from VHS VCR however when i use Sattelite Receiver the picture remnains smooth. I am using PAL format with 25 fps.

Pls advice that how could i use 30fps with Vcd or MPEG format.

Hi again,

Old or damaged VHS tapes can lost synchro signals and produce jerky images. Also could be misalignment of VCR heads, lost of tracking... etc. Try with reliable tapes in your VCR and also with another VCR.

Another (far expensive) solution is a Time Base Corrector (TBC) wich replaces damaged synchrony signals with perfect ones.

My experience with non-standard (S)VCD-DVD is bad but is very limited to states any theory.
