I give up! I have searched this site and can't come up with the answer. I simple want to take a DVD and convert the files to avi format.
This is what the files look like.

Well I tried the first "AutoGK" and that (edit: didnt work).
This is what I want to do. I have done tons of video editing but nothing I have supports the above formats. I want to take the DVD video and use it in different editing programs but it needs to be in AVI or Mpeg.
I can't believe they don't have something simple to use like DVD shrink coverts it over to a ISO file.

If you just want to put a DVD in the drive and make a backup without ripping then I would recommend the following two pieces of software.
ANYDVD (a driver that prepares the dvd to be worked with).
FairUse (takes the DVD directly and makes a xvid or divx file from it)
A second choice is to take a ripper like DVD Decrypter, DVDFab Decrypter or AnyDVD and rip the movie to your hard disk (Try DVDFab First, it is free). And since you are new at this I would recommend avi.net to do your conversion (encoding). The original Dr. Divx would be my second choice.
You will have more problems ripping DVDs than encoding them.

@BenQ
to create an .iso from ifo/bup/vob files use Imgtool classic
to demux to elementary streams, use PGCDemux or DGIndex or ReJig etc etc - this will give you m2v/ac3 etc streams which you can then import into your video editing software

dont listen to all these dorks that require you to learn complicated software:
just use dvd decryptor to extract the dvd to your hard drive as .VOB files, then rename the .VOB files to .MPG. then use something like Videora Ipod Convertor, SUPER!, or any other video convert program to downsample the video and put it in an avi container. i do it this way all the time.
