The typical consumer doesn't even know they're getting screwed with more DRM in new CE devices and computers. We need to start educating people fast!
How about a T-shirt program? I'd like to pitch a proposal to EFF.org (www.eff.org) and I could use some help in the design. EFF has done a number of T-shirts.
Here's my "DON'T BUY C-R-A-P" design. Let's take the logos of the HD formats (examples here) http://blog.scifi.com/tech/archives/early_hdtv_adopters_screwed_by_hddisc_rules.html#more
and maybe throw in Vista for good measure. Put the big "NO" sign across the logos and devise some clever captions.
.........DON'T BUY...............("NO" sign follows over the following logos)
.........Blue-ray Disc....................(logo)
............HD DVD.........................(logo)
.........C---R---A---P
Consumer Revolt Against Pigolopolies!
Because this is protected free speech, we should be able to use the logos, despite copyright and TM (yeah, right :() Well, EFF.org has lawyers, anyway.
I wanted to roll this out quickly. Now I'll go back to play with pixels and see if I can come up with something. I'm not very artistic, so that's where I could use some help too.
Edit: After additional thought, I think this T-shirt should focus on the products and agenda of the HD format Pigos and COWs (content owners), rather than the reaction of the computer industry to their agenda (Vista and Viiv). Accordingly, I think the T-shirt should target only the BR Disc and HD DVD format, media, and hardware and contain those two logos within the "NO" symbol.
