I have a dvd here where I stripped the angles using ifoedit. This is the first dvd of an anime series and I have processed volumes 2 and 3 by stripping the angles as well without any problems.

The problem I'm encountering is that dvd-rb won't reencode the DVD.

This is all I get in the log file

[01:42:13] Phase II ENCODING completed in 4 minutes.
[01:42:13] Phase III, REBUILD started.

In dvd-rb, I have selected "CCE mode" and "Full Backup". I have checked the path to CCE and it is correct. I was encoding another DVD like an hour ago and it worked okay.

I ran the encode phase several times without much success.

any ideas?

thank you. :)

Looks to me like the dvd is already small enough. So no encoding is done.

- NEW FEATURE: Added automatic detection and extraction of segments that don't need reencoding.

it if you to force encoding (for filters) you can do that in the segment editor

- NEW FEATURE: Added automatic detection and extraction of segments that don't need reencoding. This makes it possible, e.g., for "Steal Space from Extras", "Half-D1/Half Space", Menu Encoding, or possibly even simple removal of a large audio track to allow the main feature's video to be kept completely intact. Included a "Force Reencode" selection under the "Options" menu which will override this feature when you wish filters to be applied.

- Added a "Force No Reencoding" to the Video Segment Editor/Viewer. This will allow you to select segments for which you wish the video portion to remain intact. Note that this setting reduces the "recovered" amount that can be added to the feature -- and can lead to a negative feature bitrate. When this happens the "Save Settings" button is disabled.

two diff features

right.. if it fits and you want filters, you ahve to force reencode it

Yes, sorry... I miss understood you.

I have enabled "force reencode" with the same results. It won't run CCE. it just extracts the video.

I honestly think "force reencode" is redundant. When I ran prepare, dvd-rb asks me if i want to continue as the DVD is already in DVD5 format. I click "ok", then why do users still need to enable "force reencode". The fact that I click "OK" when prompted the first time obviously meant I want to reencode the DVD.

... and you are not using ReJig mode, are you? :D

edit: by mistake, of course :)

oh come on now, is it really that hard to take the extra step? the manual says too, just cause you dont feel its necessary doesnt mean it should be

just because I said it's redundant doesn't mean it's hard to do.

actually its not redundant.

the new process says.. if the extras are reencoded (if applicable) and that leaves enough room for the remaining video to fit on the dvd then there is no need to reencode it and stores it as is. The legacy option that asks if you want continue anyway if the entire video will fit already on dvd5. but there are times where you may just want to rebuild but not reencode. heck there actually is an option to not reencode (no compression.) now you can say... 'well then let everyone else pick no compression then.' but the logic of the program is cleary stated as to FIRST not compress video that does not require compression in all circumstances unless forced.

in short, i guess im saying .. saying its redundant implies one would never select 'continue anyway' and yet want the video to not be reencoded. and that isnt true.
