View Full Version : March of the Penguins: Unreferenced Audio

I noticed that when I did March of the Penguins, all of the extra had Unreferenced Audio and that was all that was there. I was unable to put a check in that would stay to keep the audio and after encoding and rebuild none of the extra or previews had audio. I open the Org DVD in Shrink and the audio said AC3 5.1-ch English and when I play the Org w/Media Player Classic it tells me the same.
Is there any way to force DVD-RB to keep the Unreferenced Audio??
Edit: Sorry, I'm using v1.08.1

curious, if its truly unreferenced, why would you keep it?

Not sure if it's truely unreferenced but it's the only audio for those parts and without it... there is no audio in the output from RB. Shrink shows the audio as ac3 5.1 english

You are misunderstanding what "unreferenced audio" means in DVD-RB. It means the audio is listed in the IFO -- but is not referenced in any PGC. You can't keep or remove something that isn't there. The listing is only there to let you know that it is listed...

I do understand that... but the output from DVD-RB on this disc has no audio on all of the VTS's where unreferenced audio is and that is the only audio for those parts. The Org plays fine in Media Player Classic and BSPlayer, the audio is listed as Engish.
So I guess what I'm asking is how can I get the output from DVD-RB to have audio with this disc on everything and not just the Main Movie?

Have you done any other editing of the disc? DVD-RB won't remove any audio unless it is told to do so in either the specific list for the DVD or the the "exclude list" in the setup menu.
The only time I can think of where this happened before, the disc was ripped with Shrink and the audio had been accidentally removed during the rip. So it showed as unreferenced.

Nope, no editting, strait rip... I did it with both DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter with both times endding up with the same results. I unchecked all audio in the "exclude list" and still no audio from the output movie.
I did the movie with Shrink and it shows the audio with the extras but the output from Shrink has the same results.

So neither Shrink nor DVD-RB has any audio? That's really odd -- and sure sound like it isn't there. Not sure right now what that could be.

Once while experimenting (I forget the circumstances)
I was noticing that after opening a video_ts file in pgcedit there was no more unrefferenced audio when opened w/ rebuilder. I had been noticing the unrefferenced audio so it stuck out but I had not dug into the how's and why's!
but the result was a fully functional copy ( Ithink it was the fog)
you may try to use pgcedit and select to do what it reccomends to. and see how that turns out!
wish I had looked into it when I noticed it!

@Fishman0919
Hi!
Just as a point of information, I ripped the Region 1 version of "March of the Penguins" with DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 ("File" mode, selecting "ALL" files, NOT "movie" files). The rip plays perfectly, as does the compressed version I made from it using DVDShrink.
Have you actually tried playing the DVD Shrink-compressed version, either from the hard drive with DVD-playing software, or on a standalone player - or are you basing your statement solely on "playing" in DVD Shrink's preview window?

No, I played the Org rip from both DVD Decryter 3.5.4.0 and DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.2 and both play fine with Media Player Classic and BSPlayer... the output files from both DVD-RB and Shrink have no audio on any of the extras... only audio is with the menu and main movie.

In DVD Shrink:
Edit>>Preferences>>Stream selections
Make certain that "Audio language and coding type" are set to "All languages" and "All types".
The "extras" are 2 Channel .AC3, while the main movie is 5.1 Channel .AC3...

Yep, thats how I got it set... Shrink shows the audio and there's are checks but the output has no audio.

1) Are you playing the DVD Shrink hard drive rip "as DVD" or simply individual .VOBs?
2) Try playing the DVD Shrink hard drive rip using VLC - and see if there are additional audiostreams to choose from when playing the "extras"
3) Have you burned a DVD and tried to play it on a standalone player - and use the remote to select a different audiostream, if necessary?

1. DVD
2. None
3. No Audio in both my Pioneer and Sony
The Org as no audio choice with the Extras
I'm starting to think this one might be a DVD-DL

You can check the output with DvdReMake, it will show you the audio stream sizes. For this you can use the demo version, here's a direct link:

Sorry, I didn't rip it with Shrink... I ripped it with DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter then ran it thru DVD-RB or Shrink.
I did burn the ripped files from DVD Decrypter with CopytoDVD to a DVD+DL and that plays fine on my standalones.
EDIT: Sorry, I had been ripping the movie with my HP 740b and with both DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter I had the audio pb. I re-ripped with my Plextor 716a and no pb's. Now the audio is showing up in DVD-RB and it's not saying Unreferenced Audio any more.... sorry of the inconvenience.

Changing drives resulted in different results?

With my HP drive, the only audio that would show for the extras was 1 audio of unreferenced... with my Plextor I get 2 audios of unreferenced and 1 of AC3 2-ch.
Yes, odd.... but both when burn to DVD+DL played fine but only the output from the Plextor drive would work with DVD-RB....Odd
Again.. Sorry All
