DV-AVI codecs?

I can open a DV-AVI (Type 2) file with VirtualDub, but cannot find a way of recompressing the filtered output to this format. I would have thought the codec would work both ways.

(My OS is WinXP and I’ve seen references to DirectShow/WDM and VfW in this forum and others which I don’t fully understand, but which may bear on this matter.)

Can someone point me 1) to an explanation, and 2) a solution?

Recent versions of VirtualDub have an internal DV decoder (aka you can open DV files even if you dont have a DShow/VfW decoder for it). As said its only a decoder - if you want to filter and reencode to DV from VirtualDub then you will have to install a VfW DV codec like Panasonic DV / Cedocida etc.

1) You need a VfW one because thats the framework VirtualDub uses - you can use DirectShow codecs in VirtualDub.

2) Solution? Take look at the stickies in the DV forum :)
