Xvid files cause WMP Classic to crash when minimizing

I'm running Win98SE and I use WMP Classic to play vid files. About 2 weeks ago, I suddenly started having a problem when playing back Xvid files. If I minimize it down to the taskbar, or switch to another application, WMP crashes. I can unpause the movie and continue to let it play, but the crash dialog box is in the way. So I have to note what time I'm at, hit ok, and then re-open the vid clip. It only does this w/ Xvid-encoded files. Divx, mpg, vfapi... they all work fine. It only started doing this recently, and I don't remember installing any new software or anything. I tried reinstalling Xvid and that helped for a little while. Then I tried a full uninstall/restart/reinstall. I even tried a full uninstall and then installed an older version. No luck.

This is the error msg:

MPLAYER2 caused an invalid page fault in module XVIDCORE.DLL at 0187:02014a0b

Then it gives a list of registers that probably won't help here...

Hint : WMP and MPC (Media Player Classic) aren't the same software _at all_.

WMP is what big bill gave you with windows (b0rked as usual), MPC is the cool media player Gabest has written :p

I was thinking though : have you changed your graphics card drivers/changed their configuration ?
Or even configured the Options > Playback > Output tab differently ? (e.g. changed the renderer ?)

Since you're using win98 it could be anything, honestly ... ^^

"Window Media Player Classic" is what they call the old version of WMP that is bundled w/ Win98, to differentiate it from the newer version in XP (which can also be downloaded separately from microsoft.com).

I haven't changed anything in my Xvid or video card settings... although I have had problems w/ certain websites causing lines and a distorted image. I think I'll try to reinstall my video card driver...

I would have called it mplayer2 myself (since the executable is called mplayer2.exe) but thx for the info ;)
