what can i use to index my avi files so i can use the fast forward option when playin them?

Fast forwarding on what? Software players and hardware players should support fast forwarding (we call it seeking) already if the avi file isn't corrupt (no corrupt headers etc).

Fastforwading on windows media center i can use the skip forward and back option but not fastforwarding

You can skip forward but not fast forward? Isn't that like the same thing? :-/

If so, possible (depending on the player). For example, in BSPlayer:

I think he means adding chapters to an avi file and the answer to that is that you can't.
