Network Controlled Software Media Player? Anyone?

Hi. A friend of mine has his desktop connected to his HDTV through the adjacent wall to the tv where his office is. He has a laptop and wireless. He wants to use the laptop to cue the movies/music from the couch in the living room. Ever heard of a network control player?

Where? That would be perfect.

View -> Options then Player -> Web Interface -> activate "Listen on port..." (put in a open port) and hit apply, then click on Launch in webbrowser...

I see it now, but I can't find any documentation for use. I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing with these ports, in my router? I've dealt with ports for emule and Azureus, amd I know the default port for all of my machines in this house (2 are wireless) is 3389, I tried to change it for remote desktop over internet for each machine, but it didn't like that at all, I was unable to even connect to network from those 2 other computers at that point, so I had to change it back to 3389.

I found the docs at http://wiki.framasoft.info/DocumentationMediaPlayerClassic/WebInterface, and I can get it to work from the computer the player is actually on, but I was unable to do this from a remote machine in the house.

You have to use a port thats not used already. Also make sure that you did uncheck "Allow access from localhost only". Then just type machineip:port (for ex. 192.168.178.21:13579).

You must type it in browser adress string ;)
