I live in Australia and today our largest telecomunications company Telstra launched a pay and download a movie site through their BigPond service. Dont know how well it will take off, its about $5 per movie and $2.50 for a episode of Stargate but they have copy protection and time limits eg Latest releases will only play for 24 hours but older movies will play for 8 days.

Its more a rental service for lazy people and they have protected Video shops by delaying movies by 1 week. TV episodes are availiable the next day.

Uh?

While the idea in itself is pleasing, why would anyone pay that much for an inferior self-destructing product? Unless one only uses it for exceptional downloads (once every month ie). Perhaps fans would be better off purchasing normal DVD's, for quality.

You say it comes protected. How's that? What container does it use? WMV? Wich version of DRM? Codec?

Time limits? I supose it tries to match the "licensed" period with Windows' clock auto-synch on the net. Might be fooled by deactivating it and playing with dates and time, who knows.

Could you provide more info on this? THKS
