View Full Version : Arccos sideffects...

I don't know if this has happened to you but I encounter this on every arccos movie I rip. No matter what tool I use to bypass arcoos(eg. anydvd, dvd43, pgcedit+pls plugin) one of this happens:

1. the subs are out of sync (this is encountered almost every time)
2. the subs are ok but the sound is out of sync (rarely happens)
3. the subs and the sound is out of sync (extreme case)

NOTE: I encode only the main movie in Xvid using Gknot.

Does anybody know why is thiw happening and if there is a way to fix it? (till now I fix it manually)

Hi there,

It is most likely that the sync problems you are experiencing are a side effect of the dummy sectors that have been inserted by the ripping software where the bad sectors were on the original Arcoss disc. The best thing to do is to run the decrypted VOB files through either FixVTS or Voblanker. Either program will remove the blank data and leave you with a nice clean VOB :)

I think this is your problem!

I think this is your problem!

Y'know, I wasn't going to go there... *snicker*

Seriously though, try running everything through VOB Blanker.

He says he tried the plugin which automatically gives him the option of FixVTS or VobBlanker and still has a problem.
Using the method he is using I have others complain of sync problems. I think if he would try DVD Shrink in re-author mode (movie only) and test it on a RW he will find his problem gone. :)

Try ripping the movie with DVD Decrypter and the proper PSL2 file and you should find that your troubles disappear.

If he is using the plugin like he says he is, then the psl2 file is generated automatically for you. The question here would be if this is actually a ARccOS protected disk or RipGuard protected. If it is RG protected then there is no psl2 file needed or generated with the plugin since DVDD can generate it's own.

It would be nice if he would tell us the name of the title and region along with a posted log from DVDD.

I have used fixvts(as a result of the plugin) it changed the time for the subs but the time was still wrong. the movies I am refering to are certainly arccos protected. maybe I should give more info on how I decrypt.

anydvd:
open DVD decrypter, choose the main movie, choose the audio stream and choose "demux", select all the subs, select a disk location to save and then rip.

plugin(tried just once):
I followed the process the guide and plugin says but when I imported the psl2 file DVDD sayed that there is a parameter missing at line #2(i think). I opened the psl2 file in notepad and added "0" at that line, before the "0" there was a "," (I think this an error of psl2 plugin). then imported the new psl file and proceeded but the subs where out of sync. (thank god there is Subresync!!!!)

If you are using the most recent version of AnyDVD, you shouldn't have to use "FixVTS" because AnyDVD now includes its own version of "FixVTS"...

@SledgeHammer_999

It is the way you are processing that is causing your problems not DVDD, plugin or AnyDVD.

why in the world are you demuxing....if you demux your streams then you need to reauthor with the audio and subpic stream delays that DVD D gives you. Auto GK cannot do this.

Just rip as Files, but make sure your I/O is elby in DVD D and uncheck check for structure protection. After files ripped, close anydvd, then run FixVTS, then open AutoGK and point it to the .IFO you want.

Demux is unreliable with AutoGK.

i have done this with many Arccos titles...no issue.

You can also, if you want movie only, open up the fixed (post-FixVTS ) files and do a movie only with DVDShrink. HOWEVER, move the start position of DVDShrink in a bit to get rid of any messed up cells.

don't demux

@ron spencer
I DONT use AutoGK, I hate it. I use Gordianknot that's why I demux(only the audio stream NOT the subs).

@setarip_old
I don't use the ripping tool of anydvd, so it doesn't use fixvts code(I think).

@WarDog
what do you mean? my way works for the other movies.

WarDog

@SledgeHammer_999

That's exactly it, it works on other movies. ARccOS protected movies are different and the IFO/VOB's need to be cleaned from the ARccOS crap and that's not happening when you demux them.
Use AnyDVD and rip in file mode of DVDD and then use the AnyDVD Ripper that is in the latest release or FixVTS. After files have been cleaned then use a program to demux if that's what you like to do. Personally myself if I wanted to do a movie only I would use DVD Shrink and use the re-author mode. It can't get any easier than that and you wont have sync problems.

Actually, WarDog, you don't need to rip in file mode first and then use AnyDVD Ripper...it'll work directly off the original DVD and rip to the hard drive. It does the FixVTS process on the fly. Also, I recall Slysoft mentioning the audio sync issue before and they said they were working on a fix for the problem even though it was not a defect in their code. I'm not sure if this has been fixed in the latest version or not. A new version of AnyDVD (5.9.3.1) was just released in the past hour or so but I don't know if it'll help this particular issue.

@SamuriHL

His problem is do to changing the setting in DVDD.
anydvd:
open DVD decrypter, choose the main movie, choose the audio stream and choose "demux", select all the subs, select a disk location to save and then rip.
Has nothing to do if he if ripping in file mode or on the fly.

Ah, my mistake. Sorry about that.

ok I'll try it on the next arccos movie I'll rip. By accident I discovered this: I opened the vobs of an arccos movie, that I still have on the disk, in Subrip and I observed something interesting.(see the picture I've attached) According to the Subrip's tooltips the first timecode is "Nav Packet Time(Bad)" and the second is "SCR & PTS Time(Ok)". The first is pretty close(by milliseconds) to the right one and the second one is the wrong one that vobsub AND subrip use. Maybe there should be a new version of vobsub & subrip which would allow you to use the first timecode just for arccos movies. Till then I'll open the vobs in subrip, I'll write down the timecode and then use it in Subresync.

There is not need to use other programs than DVDDecrypter to remove arccos. Just simply deselect all cells in chapter 1 except last one. The desinhronization will be present, but after DGIndex in the filename of ac3 i got delay value and apply that both audio end subtitle. This works i copied over ten films.

Grey's Anatomy Season 1 has been driving me crazy. I've ripped it so many times that I'm afraid I'll wear out the disk :D

Just tried your method and finally, success!

Already tried FixVTS and VobBlanker and DGIndex. Delay keeps beeing identified as 84119ms, wich of course is nonsense.
Anything new about this Arccos protection?

Thx

What is the Title and Region of the DVD?

darkpepe
16th March 2006, 22:20
The title is "The Marksman", and it's the spanish RC2 version.
As it is a Sony production I assume it uses Arccos...

Delay keeps beeing identified as 84119ms, wich of course is nonsense.If you play your hard drive rip "AS DVD", using VLC, POwerDVD, WinDVD, etc., is there a 1-1 1/2 minute (84,119ms is 1 minute and 24 seconds) display of a blank screen after you've selected "Play" from the menu? If so, you haven't properly "cleaned it up" with VOBBlanker...

darkpepe
16th March 2006, 23:37
No, it starts right away.

The right delay should be about 1020ms. But it's quite difficult to tell as VD doesn't play AC3 streams.

You have to rip from the ORIGINAL with PSL2 plugin wizzard for PGCEdit.

I tried this method with successs.

4. Next, you may want to cleanup the main title and remove the bad cells from the VOB and fix the pointers by running FixVTS or VobBlanker - this step may actually be necessary if you experience audio desynchronization problems, so you are advised to do it.

I already tried that step with both progs, without luck.
Maybe the 3 steps before that are necessary instead of ripping with DVD Fab...
