Since AutoGK 2.26 installed DGIndex 1.4.6 I regularly receive the message "Cannot find audio or video data. Ensure your PIDs aer set correctly in the Stream menu" when trying to demux .mpg files containing MPEG2 video and AC3 audio.

From the manual this appears to be something to do with a 'transport stream'. The files I'm getting the problem with are generally DVD VOB files created by my DVD Recorder which I have demuxed with DGIndex and cut/joined/remuxed with Cuttermaran 1.66. These are not 'transport streams' as far as I know. Does anyone know how I can avoid getting this error - it prevents AutoGK from converting the files to Xvid using DGI 1.4.6.

The older DGI 1.4.0 does not suffer from this problem - replacing the DGI installed with AutoGK with this older version makes the the problem go away but I would like to be able to fix the cause rather than the symptom so I don't have to mess around each time I install a new version.

I can't help you with AGK.

Load the file directly in DGIndex. If it shows up as a transport stream and you think it is not a transport stream, then please post a link to a short source stream fragment that I can use to duplicate your issue.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that loading the file directly into DGI was obviously the first thing I tried - to confirm that it wasn't an AutoGK problem. I got the same pop-up about there being no video or audio. I should also mention that the file plays OK in WiMP, PowerDVD, VLC (the 'transport stream' files from my sat card do not play in WiMP, btw)

The .mpg file in question is around 1.80GB - this may sound like a stupid question - how should I go about obtaining a 'short source stream fragment' so that the existing structure is maintained? Does it need to be from the start, the middle, the end, how many bytes?

Does it need to be from the start, the middle, the end, how many bytes? It doesn't matter where it comes from.

Please try loading this file in DGIndex and after you dismiss the popup, select Stream/Detect PIDs: PAT/PMT. Also try Detect PIDs: Raw. What do you get?

A long list (I stopped counting at 50) of hex numbers followed by ':Other', except for '0x1fff: Null', '0x0:PAT', '0x7: Reserved' in no particular order. The first entries are: 0xbae, 0x1cf9, 0x13e7, 0x19f3, 0x1800.

I'm working on the short source fragment but my internet connection is not working well at the moment and I am having problems with ftp.:( Do you have somewhere I can put the fragment or can I e-mail it to you?

It might be for all I know!! My problem is that 1.4.6. can't demux the file while 1.4.0 can.

The file was created by demuxing two sets of DVD VOB files, one set created by my DVD Recorder, the other set by a program call AVI2DVD (which uses QuEnc, BeSweet and DVDAuthor to create DVD VOB files). The two VOB sets were edited together with Cuttermaran which uses mplex to multiplex the MPEG2 video with the AC3 audio to create a .mpg format file. Maybe this is what you mean by 'transport stream'?

For me a transport stream is all the data my satellite card receives from a single transponder, ie. something with many different video streams and audio streams, teletext data, epg info etc. with presumably some sort of table to define how it all fits together.

I managed to upload a short segment, the first 5MB. It can be found at this URL: http://home.scarlet.be/~tsk21536/dgi146prob_5m.mpg. This segment doesn't give the pop-up for no video/audio when it is first loaded - but it does give it when I try to 'save project and demux'.

It might be for all I know!! My problem is that 1.4.6. can't demux the file while 1.4.0 can. The file is in fact a program stream but the first video frame has data that spoofs the transport stream detection mechanism. It has a series of sync bytes (0x47) such that 4 appear separated by 188 bytes (the size of a transport packet).

I have to determine if there is an automatic way to distinguish that. Otherwise, I'll have to add an option to force detection as a program stream. I hope to have something for you in the next beta.

OK, I made the transport stream detection a little more robust, such that it correctly detects your stream as a program stream. Here is beta 2:

Tried the beta on my file and it works! Great work!!

I ran the original file through Project X and it figured out what was what. It did say that there was an audio stream with one id which contained a sub-id. No idea what it meant by that but perhaps it's a clue. Maybe you could use whatever method ProjectX uses for distinguishing between program and transport streams.
