Video Chipsets

I am getting ready to put together a new machine, I have settled on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400 CPU. Up to now, all the hardware that I have purchased has just been a gamble at best and everything has seemed to work well anyway. Now, I'd like to be a little more careful since we are getting into some big money for this hardware.
What is it that makes a chipset more suitable for video, or for that matter gaming? Is a good gaming mainboard counter productive to video work? Or does it matter? I don't game, but that seems where most of the attention is in the marketplace.
I have been told that SiS chipsets are particularlly suitable for video work, that Via chipsets are unsuitable for video. What would make this so?
What would tell me in a mainboards specs that it is more or less suitable for video than another mainboard?
If you use an X2 series CPU, what board do you have?

The video card, if that's what you're referring to by "video chipset," makes no difference to video encoding, or for that matter video decoding since it's done by the processor.

If you're mostly going to be doing video work I suggest an ATI card with Avivo. That would be any of the X1x00 cards. Avivo offers a somewhat sketchy encoder, but it's real benefits come in decoding with hardware acceleration for many formats, not to mention superb DVD playback.

You'll want a mainboard with an Nvidia chipset to go with that bad boy cpu.
