I`ve been trying out to make a backup of the movie "Man On Fire" (PAL) and i get the following values after preparation in Dvd Rebuilder:

[16:29:32] Phase I, PREPARATION started.
- CCE SP 2.70.1.5 encoder selected.
- "Movie and Menus Only" mode is enabled.
- VTS_02: 2*935*180 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V & .AVS files
-- Processed 210*808 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- VTS_03: 451*685 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V & .AVS files
-- Processed 46*801 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 45,0%
- Overall Bitrate : 1*709Kbs
- Space for Video : 2*149*602KB
- Blanking all EXTRA Segments
-- Feature before/after: 2*174 / 2*174 Kbs

Like you can see i blanked all the extras and still i get a bitrate of only 1709Kbs and that seems a little low to me...
Is there anything you can do to get a higher bitrate?
I thought about using more passes for the encoding but i`m not sure this will help either..i use 4 passes right now.

Any suggestions?

Simple. Remove the english dts-, spanish and french ac3-tracks.

What version of DVD-RB are you using? You may want to check and see if there is a big VIDEO_TS.VOB grabbing up your space.

Along the same lines of what jdobbs suggests, try "Movie only" and see how much the bitrate improves.

I use the 1.04 Pro version of DVD Rebuilder...
Ok, but how do i check that?
I mean, where should i look for this VIDEO_TS.VOB file?

Just to note: my suggestion was *not* a guess, these tracks are on the PAL-dvd (just google and you'll see).

I mean, where should i look for this VIDEO_TS.VOB file? You really need to upgrade. There have been lots of bug fixes and improvements since then.

Since you're using v1.04 the extra space could also be lost in menus if they're large... starting with v1.07, menus can be reencoded also.
