when i used to make vcds, some of them used to get the sound/video out of sync, sometimes because the vcd would freeze when being played, then when it unfroze it would be out of xync, sometimes it would just be out from the start,so i got me a dvd burner and im still having the same problems, being burning avi or mpeg files and watching them, they are still freezing/blipping and going out of sync, now is it the media im using,my dvd player or my burning technique as the files before being burnt play fine on my p.c, this is really getting me down now, everytime i burn stuff, im feeling nervous as im just waiting for it to freeze/lose its sync.
im using imation cd`s/dvd`s.
any ideas ?
cheers.......

Hi!
1) It could be due to poor quality media. You might want to try higher quality media such as Taiyo-Yuden, Verbatim, or Maxell, for example
2) Try burning DVD media at a lower speed (e.g. 4X)...

Do your burned CDs play out of sync on a PC too? If so, how exactly are you creating them? Give us more details about the process and any settings you use when encoding. What are you using to encode to VCD? What are you using to burn the VCD?

yep, just played the dvd on my p.c and it does the same thing, freezes, blips and then at the end done the same as my tv dvd player, audio went out of sync by about 30 seconds.
im creating my dvd`s with the software the burner came with, power producer, basically i select the mpeg file and it encodes it all itself,i dont do anything, so from a dummies guide front its a good bit of kit, i check the avi or mpeg files are working and they are fine, play well, but once they are burnt, all hell breaks lose !!!!! im not making vcd`s any more, its now dvd`s, but the exact same problems, i was using nero to do them, selecting the avi file and it encodes it all for you as well, as u all know :-)
its looking more and more of a dvd/cdrw media issue isnt it ?!!?!?
cheers......

I don't think it's your media because PCs don't really care so much about media. If your media was crap, it would probably still play OK on the PC you burned it on.
I still think you are leaving a lot out. Apparently some mystery video file just shows up on your PC. My guess is that you are downloading videos of dubious legality and you have (wisely) decided not to mention that. It does seem that you aren't recording these videos yourself. Unfortunately, you're too inexperienced to tell us anything that's really useful to help us. My best guess is that something is wrong with what you are doing and changing media won't help. The best suggestion I have is that you try to find as many guides as possible on how to do whatever it is that you REALLY want to do but aren't telling us (perhaps convert downloaded DivX to VCD/DVD?), read them, follow them, and learn from your own mistakes. Doom9 is not the most friendly place for beginners, unfortunately. The guides and forums at http://www.dvdrhelp.com might be more useful to you as a newbie.
By the way, Nero is a truly awful encoder and anyone who cares anything at all about the final results will find another way to do this. It's really easy to use, but as you will learn if you get more interested in this subject, easy does not equal good and you'll get better results by using tools or combinations of tools that don't really lead themselves to one click solutions. I have a friend who is relatively smart, but if he has to click on more than 1 or 2 buttons, his brain shuts off and he refuses to learn anything about it. Please don't be like him and instead spend some time to learn how to do things the right way instead of the easy way.
