Multipass at different quality

Hi to all.
Speaking about DivX6.1, setting 1st pass at fastest encoding mode and Nth pass at insane will lead to quality loss in comparison with 1st and Nth pass both insane?

I usually do 3-pass encoding, 1st and 2nd at normal, 3rd at insane. The quality is very good. Using insane for all passes needs more time to encode
