Adobe Premiere Export

Hi, I have become very frustrated with Premiere Pro 2.0's export feature. I have an 11 mins 24 sec video I have tried to export with nearly every possible codec, including Uncompressed. The thing is whenever I export to DivX, no matter what quality/bitrate etc it ALWAYS comes out pixellated and blocky. Severely.

When I tried to export to XVid, the damn thing didnt even start it just froze up.
When I tried either version of Uncompressed, I could not open the files in VirtualDub to try and compress it from there (said cannot use DirectShow codecs).

I tried WMV, it got stuck on about frame 5390 and wouldnt move.

I will not use RealMedia or QuickTime as I hate those codecs with a passion. Does anybody have a solution?

Well, Premiere is known to be buggy with Divx and Xvid and stuff, so I dont doubt what you got with those. I do find it strange that you had problems with exporting an uncompressed video though. I have always considered that the "sure-fire" method that Premiere definately wouldn't screw up.

Try exporting as a sequence of PNG images and a wav. You can load these into virtualdub.

Also check that you can actually play the exported files if yes - then try importing them into VD via Avisynth and DirectShowSource().

The exported files did play in Windows Media Player. I'm going to try the PNG/WAVE method first and will reply here if it is an adequate solution. Thanks!

Try exporting to huffy or lagarith as well, might save you a little hard drive space at least, even if they don't work perfectly.

Lagarith doesnt work properly in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.
Huffyuv should be a good choice to try too though... but I've even heard a fair share of problems with that.

Huffy was one of the things I tried, actually. Didn't work.
I exported my video as a series of Targas (there was no option for PNG), and now VirtualDub still wont' even load that! It says Targa decoder: 8-bit alpha supported onyl with 32-bit RGB

Every single thing givin me problems..premiere has been great for editing but I can't even get my movie out of it! Any more ideas? :O

You could try loading the targa files through AVISynth, recent versions have an imageloader built in. I'm not sure if it would support those though.

I'm still really surprised that you had trouble with uncompressed AVI... but meh.
Try exporting as uncompressed Quicktime. Then take a look at this thread to find a way to convert to AVI: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=107297

Are you exporting 16-bit video? That might be why nothing can load what gets exported, and explain the targa error. If it is, try downsampling to 8-bit and that might fix it.

Well, I found a solution. Instead of selecting Uncompressed from the General page, I choose Microsoft AVI. Then I go to the VIDEO page, and choose None for the codec. Problem solved, it exported just fine and I can do w/e I want with it in VirtualDub. Thanks for all the help, and if my method or yours helps someone else which I'm sure it will, all the better.

same issues here. seems premiere doesn't support 3rd party codecs very well at all.... I had to use MPEG-2 as an output, which was then transcoded into XviD for youtube :)

I never tried images, or this method of uncompressed. Will have to try that out...
