I'm encoding from a miniDV camcorder that captures to the hdd with MainConcept ProDV Codec. I'm using Xvid 1.1-302005 and am not sure if I should use HT-NTSC or AS@L5; I use DXN/HT-NTSC mainly because my standalone is the Philips 642/37 that's compatible with MPEG4 files.
I've experiemented with Single Pass and 2 pass; it's vaguely hard to tell the difference and would like to know when 2 pass is recommended. Should/Can Audio be disabled during the 1st pass/enabled on the 2nd?
So far better quality results occur when Interlaced Encoding/Top filed first are enabled. If they're disabled jerkiness occurs during playback where there's more motion. The only thing I notice when it's disabled is that B-frames are processed.
Listed are the primary settings I use.
- B-VOPs is checked with Max consecutive BVOPs at 2, ratio=1.50and offset=1.00. For Aspect Ratio does using 4:3 NTSC or Square (default) matter?
At Quality Preset
- Motion search precision = 4
- VHQ mode = 1 (mode decision)
- Use VHQ for bframes too and Use chromo motion are enabled. Frame drop/Maximum I-frame are default (0/300)
- Min/Max Quantizers are 2-31. Trellis quantization is disabled.
If you have suggestions as to "what it is" I should have enabled please inform me. I'm looking to get the best quality I can from the camcorder.
