Having an issue with a Ali G Season 2 NTSC DVD

The sourse is interlaced, and therefore my first attempt using dvd-rb on this disc resulted in an interlaced output (obviously).

Then I re-tried selecting "DeInterlace With Decomb" under the Options/AVS Expert Options. Yet still resulted in an interlaced output. Later finding out that I needed to have the decomb filter installed first.

I installed filter through dvdrb setup

Location of filter install (by dvdrb)
C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\Decomb521.dll

rebuilder.ini says
DECOMB=C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\Decomb521.dll

Ran dvdrb once again(with "DeInterlace With Decomb" still selected) , and yet still my ouput was interlaced.

other details:
I am using CCE SP (2.70) 5pass to encode, stealing 0% from extras.

Am I missing a step or setting? Is there a better/simpler way to de-interlace the video??

As always any help or insight is appreciated.

It is still going to be interlaced. All that filter does in DVD-RB is smooth (blend) it for a little better playback on computer monitors.

On a truly interlaced source you can never actually "deinterlace" unless you are willing to give up part of the picture. That's because there are temporal differences between the fields.

Does DVD-RB do a deinterlace even if I don't do a re-encode on a DVD but just select under options deinterlace with decomb and leave 100%?

thanks

If the disc isn't reencoded, no action (like deinterlacing) can take place.

I still suggest, however, that except in rare and unusual circumstances, deinterlacing is a bad idea.

You might want to make sure deinterlacing is enabled on your software player, and play around with the different modes to see which works best with your source/eyes.

Thanks, wmansir. I did that and the picture did become nicer and "less" interlaced....

Thanks again
