View Full Version : Scenarist 3.0 problem when massive amount of subtitles

Hi,

I'm trying to backup a DVD9 disc using the Big3 method (DIF4U 1.4.0.0, Scenaid 1.7.0.7, BatchCCEWS, Scenarist 3.0)

Everything works fine untill I want to import the generated script from Scenaid into Scenarist. When I do that Scenarist just hangs and doesn't do anything. It doesn't even create the cache dir it should create when importing the script. I have tried to let it do it's thing during the night but the next morning I still didn't have any new dirs.

I searched here on the forums and I think it may be related to the number of subtitles on the disc. There are 30 different subtitles on this disc, and the .scp file generated by Scenaid is 143mb in size. I read in a topic that this should only be around 15-20mb normally and because of this massive amount of subs it's 143mb now.

My question is: Is it possible to import this script in Scenarist (maybe I just have to wait very long to have it completed ?) or is it just not possible ? Maybe Scenarist can manage this when I upgrade to a newer version ?
I'd rather not choose to strip any subtitles since I like to have my backups as complete as possible :)

Thanks in advance for any tips regarding this issue.

Its not going to be possible i would guess. I suggest importing the scp into muxman instead (assuming there are no angles). I think the advanced version will be needed (if i remember correctly the free builds only allow 4 sub streams)

Ok I'll give it a try

Btw, this one is a different disc than the one which gives me the missing subpicture problem in the other topic. Just to avoid misunderstandings :)

How can I see if muxman isn't freezing like Scenarist does?

I know Scenarist creates a cache directory when importing the script, but I don't know how it goes when using muxman. Does muxman also creates a cache directory, so I'll know where to look at to see if muxman can handle it ?

Muxman is freezing as well.

So there's no way to backup a disc containing this many subtitles then (and keeping all subtitles) ?

I find it hard to believe MuxMan actually froze, but if there are as many bmp subs as you say, it will slow down as each bmp has to be decoded, colorspace converted, and encoded as SPU.
MuxMan can also use .sup files which are not only incredibly faster, but retain effects like fade, wipe, and scroll.

But using the big 3 method will always give me bmp subpictures right ?
How can I change this behaviour so it will create .sup files ?

To create sup files checkout some of the settings in scenaid (VIP access required)

I have succesfully compiled scripts with 30 subs in scenarist but it takes ages. About 1,5 to 2 hours for just importing. Scenarist seems to hang but comes alive after some hours ;).

I would strobgly suggest muxman though, especially with .sup files it's incredibly fast.

Ok I will look into that.

I have let scenarist do its thing for like 10 hours but still nothing changed (not even one file/dir created).

hmm, maybe the scripts is bad...I would still strongly suggest muxman for such titles (if possible, no angles etc)

Can I just load the scp file for scenarist into muxman or do I need to encode the disc again for muxman ?
I tried to load the scp file I had but it just didn't work (it just hung there for 8 hours till I got back from work).
