Firstly i want to make known what a terrific program AGK is. It's fantastic.

I have, however, noticed that when it picks the aspect ratio it often is quite far away from the true AR. A LOT of the time it picks an AR of 1.73:1 for DVD sources that are 1.78:1 or 1.85:1
I realise that the whole XviD encoding process is very technical and some issues concerning a 1 click encoding program such as AGK will never (probably) be 100% accurate. I am suprised that aspect ratio detection is something that it can get wrong though. I don't claim to understand the workings so i could be totaly wrong but i would have thought that after detecting the source aspect ratio it wouldn't be that hard to make sure AGK gets within 0.1 of the correct ratio. I have also noticed that although a source AR of 2.35:1 is usualy the programs favourite ratio to get closest to it can sometimes offer up an encode of 2.25:1
I have ripped 100's of DVDs with AGK so i feel safe in my observation that the choosing of AR isn't as good as what it could be.

I usualy end up having to use the full GK to find the best crop and res. I then enter those parameters into AGKs advanced settings and i find it works fine then. This is a bit of hassle and i know what you will be thinking.. " so why don't you just use GK to encode and why bother using AGK?" Well.. I have serious issues with GK that results in my 1CD and 2CD rips being 60-150MB (depending on amount of CDs) undersized. I did make a post concerning this in these forums but even after numerous uninstalls and reinstalls of both codec and programs the problem persists so using GK isn't possible for me. AGK on the other hand i have perfectly sized files so hence why i have use it.

So.. improvements to the AR is 1 observation i have but the other problem i have concerns IVTC and Deinterlacing and "force film". Sometimes i know a DVD needs deinterlacing or maybe i know it needs ITVC. With AGK this isn't a problem if the source is found to be "hybrid" but many, many times it detects something as "pure film" or "NTSC" and so by clicking "force deinterlace if found as hybrid" in the advanced options it does nothing as it isn't found as hybrid. Is it possible in any way to force deinterlacing or force IVTC regardless of what the source is detected as?

I also wish that sources that are 29.970 FPS could be made to rip at 23.957 as nearly every rip i ever make that results in an a 29.970 FPS XviD is jerky on playback.
None of my problems are fixable within the advanced options in AKG as far as i know but i wondered if there was a work around for 1 or more of them that i am unaware of.

I do realise that the whole purpose of AGK is to be simple but it would be fantastic if some of this could be adressed within the advanced options. It would also be very helpfull if when choosing "fixed width" in the res setting you could also choose "fixed height" As i have found sometimes after consulting GK on the correct res for good AR, i find i input the fixed width and still find that it doesn't choose the correct height to give 100% correct AR i then have to play about with cropping paremiters to make it choose the height i want.
That said i can work around those probs and although time consuming i can do it in the end. My main concern is the deint and ivtc prob. If anyone has a work around solution i would be very greatfull.

Thanks for your time.

In order to get the perfect AR in most cases you need to pick a "Fixed Width" that will allow it. You said that sometimes it will be 1.73 instead of 1.78 - the reason is that for maximum compatibility the output has to be a multiple of 16. Up- or down-sizing the video should solve that.

Your problem with IVTC is an odd one. The video is being detected improperly, then DGIndex is used without "Force Film." What are the titles of some of the disks with which you've had a problem?
