Is there any software available for the Sony DVD recorder to disable this feature as I need to copy a precious DVD region 1 which is copy protected to DVD-R or if not to VHS.

Hi!
SONY standalone hardware is notorious for NOT being able to be "adjusted" via software/firmware.
Do you have a DVD burner as part of your PC's system? If so, you should be able to use freeware tools such as DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 and DVD Shrink to accomplish your desire goal...

What is the Title of your original, purchased Region 1 DVD that you are trying to copy?

You should be able to readily "rip" it (decrypt/remove copy protction and copy to your hard drive) using DVD Decrypter and, if necessary use DVD Shrink to compress - then burn a backup copy...

you can also use AnyDVD and use it to remove al protections on the fly without having to use DVDD.
