Hi all,

I've been using DVD decryptor and DVD shrink for the past year and on my Sony these discs playback perfectly, but I recently received an upconverting LG LST-3150A player and the discs skip unevenly when I play them back.

And this only happens with the burned discs that I have created with DVD shrink.

Any suggestions as to what to do to fix this?

Hi!

Different players have different compatibility issues. To determine the capabilities/limitations of your specific brand and model of standalone DVD player, as well as media compatibility, go to:

Thanks setarip, unfortunately my player doesn't seem to be listed there. Are there other similar sites where I could check?

I recently received an upconverting LG LST-3150A playerIs this, in fact, only a player or, as a Googlesearch indicates, is this a standalone DVD recorder?

It's a DVD player/HD Receiver. The model has apparently been discontinued.

Sounds like you're dealing with used equipment, which may or may not be in proper working condition..

I can only suggest that you try:

1) Running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on the player. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US

2) Try burning different, high quality media, such as Verbatim, T-Y, Maxell

3) Try burning at a lower speed (e.g. 4X)

Thanks again. I've read elsewhere that the player works well with discs burned with Nero 6.6, which I've just picked up so I'll give your advice a try and if that doesn't work, crack open the Nero.

Thanks again for your help.

Well, no such luck. A friend of mine gave me a disc of flash animation that he made and that disc played perfectly well, as did a few discs that I made using a set top DVD burner. So I know that the machine will play burned discs, now I just need to find some software for authoring that the machine will play nice with.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried any or all of the three suggestions I made?

Yep, tried them all.

After cleaning the machine (I used the Maxell cleaning disc) the player behaved the same.

So then I tried using a higher quality media (again, I used Maxell and HP) and no luck.

Then I tried burning at a slower speed. Still no luck.

The software that I was using was DVD shrink, then I switched over to Nero Version 6.6, repeated the process and again, no luck.

Now the interesting thing is this, the discs that I have that were burned with a Set Top DVD burner (a Panasonic, I don't remember the model number off hand) all work great. The image is beautiful and there are no hiccups in playback.

Also, the disc of animation I mentioned plays perfectly, but when I burn a disc nada.

This leads me to believe that the problem is the software that I'm using. My friend said that he didn't author the disc, but one of his classmates did. He said that he thought he used the Adobe DVD burning software.

Have you heard anything about their software?

And as always, thank you so much for the help.

At what speed are you burning your disks, and what media are you using?

Well, I've been burning at the slowest speed possible (either 2X or 2.4X depending on the media) and using either Maxell DVD-R (the 8X ones) or HP DVD+R.

Again, thanks for your help.

I myself have doubts is the software but rather the hardware that burns the disk. Not rare are the cases when a DVD burned by a certain burner can be played by some other players but by others not.

I hadn't thought of that.

Hmmm, I have plenty to think about now.

Thanks everyone,

Well, I've been burning at the slowest speed possible

Maybe that's not such a good idea. I use Nero CD-DVDd Disc Quality scans to judge how good a burn was/is.

Okay, I've tried multiple burning speeds, software, and media brands, I'm thinking that it is a incompatiblity between the drive and the player.

So my question is, if I were to buy a new burner how would I be able to make sure that they would be compatible? If I bought the same brand would I be fairly safe or is there more to it than that?

Thanks again,

E

Chances are good that a newer burner will have a higher compatibility regardless of brand, but if you're having trouble with a specific brand of burner now it might not be a bad idea to avoid it.

That makes sense, thanks.
